First of all, I have had magicjack for over a year now. I was also a vonage user, paying around 40 bucks a month for almost the exact same quality and service. I signed up for Vonage in February of 2004 and just canceled it in June of 2009. Why? Because my magicjack works just as well for an average cost of 1.67 a month. Yes, 1.67 a month. I call long distance every single day...so does my son...we talk a lot. And never, until this week, did I have a single problem with my magicjack. Yes, I had a problem but it was my fault. I have my magicjack plugged into the front USB port of my computer and when getting up from my desk I hit it often...It started to malfunction this week, shutting down randomly. I went to the magicjack website and entered a help chat and immediately was told that I would be sent a replacement magicjack...They were very helpful, there was no wait time on the chat and they didn't have to give me a new one. They have placed a 39.95 hold on my credit card which will be released once I return the old one, but I am not concerned about that. I was about to go pay 40.00 for a new one anyway. It works and works well. For around a nickel a day I can talk long distance on my cordless phone whenever I please. Now, I admit that the softphone popping up is annoying. If I am working and typing on my computer and get a call it will sometimes cause the softphone to answer before I pick up the actual phone. Small annoyance though considering the price. As for putting in social security and credit card numbers, here is a suggestion. Don't use the dial pad on your phone. Click on the numbers on the softphone dialpad on your computer instead. Works like a charm. I discovered this a few months ago and it's how I always do it when I need to use an automated system. You have call waiting, call forwarding, and music plays when you have someone on hold...You can shut down your computer at night and your calls will go to voice mail so you aren't completely missing calls. Voicemail messages are sent to your email as attachments as well. This is very helpful for me as I often go to friends or family members houses and can listen to recent voice mails from their house. I haven't had a landline through a local phone company since 2005. I've been straight up VOIP with Vonage and magicjack for years...with a prepaid cell that I spend 10 bucks a month on for emergencies (should my electricity go out, of course.) Before 2005, I was paying 130.00 a month at least for my phone bill with long distance. And I dropped Vonage because magicjack did the same thing for much less. Today my phone services are a combined 11.67 a month. 10 bucks for my emergency cell and 1.67 average for my magicjack...and I talk just as much if not more than I did pre-2005. I see that there are complaints but wow, folks. I guess you just can't please everybody.

First off the employee should watch his mouth. Secondly, if your going to be paying about 39 a month for this service why not just get a cell phone? or a pay as you go phone? not sure why people buy into these things. Magic jack sounds legit but it does prey on those that know little about technology. Not sure how the "inventor" was able to pass this device off, its just a usb device that connects to your phone via a phone jack, much like a dial up modem. Here get this http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/subscriptions/uscanada/ You can also install the program on a cell phone, psp or whatever you want. They do have phone that work with skype and if you have bluetooth it should be fairly easy and without wires. Making a phone call via your pc / or phone to any skype number is free. Its a better solution than Magic Jack. I do not work for skype just giving a suggestion on how to save money.

I have magic jack for about 5 months. #1 it works fine for me #2 I switched to Vista and it stopped working - I called customer service and spoke to real people and they helped me get it back up an running #3 It does have 911 access. You set it up when you install it. You have to designate an address for this. #4 It does have Tone dial, i use it all the time with those bank/credit card 800 numbers where you cant speak to a live person and have to follow the prompts #5 if you did get charged before 30 days call the customer support - talk to a live person - and complain. just my experiences. Thanks.

You say his wife should just stay off the computer? Did you not get the part where he said that her work REQUIRES the use of their computer? As rude as you are, I see why this guy has so many issues with magic jack. Now half of what he says normally wouldn't be a problem, however on the infomercial from which he ordered, several things are stated which the product or service does not adhere to. Number 1: It is HEAVILY advertised on the infomercial and commercials that "You will NOT be charged at all until after 30 days." in fact a direct quote is "You can't pay for it today, that's right you get 30 days free before you are charged". That is why he's upset. He was promised something on the infomercial that was not delivered. He was lied to. Number 2: On the infomercial, non of the negative things he posted (i.e. crappy 911, no touch tone usage, etc.) are even mentioned, and to make it worse, they tell you to "fire your phone company because magic jack is all you'll ever need" they should at least mention the 911 or say something along the lines of "Use magic jack, but keep the bare minimum from your phone company so you have quick 911 access" I can understand why he's upset. If he ordered it from the infomercial, there is a lot that was not told to him. From what I see, because of what has happened, he has a potential lawsuit for false advertising and fraud.(I am not an attourney, this is just my opinion)
