Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was getting frustrated with my gas powered weed wacker, blower, mower, etc constantly needing repair, so I checked with the local Mower repair business named Marks Mowers on San Jose Blvd.

They recommended Marc Batchelor, Street Scapes LLC.  I called Marc and 3 other local lawn service companies and was quoted about the same price from everyone, within $10 per month.  I chose to hire Marc Batchelor because of the referral and because during the phone interview he said he was a single dad, trying to raise a son who helped him with the business when he wasn't at football practice or at church.  I figured an honest church going Dad trying to make it good in a down economy deserved a chance.

Service began mid July, 2012.  The first few services were acceptable.  The only 2 issues I had were that He didn't appear to blow the patio around the pool very well, and there was quite a bit of pine needles and such on the front doormat and around the area of the front door.  It's hard not to notice the lack of attention to detail when you are walking in the front door and are stepping on grass and pine needles.

My lawn looked good, but shouldn't the area around the front door and walk be blown clear as well? I addressed this with Marc on the next Thursday and assumed it would be perfect from then on.  It wasn't.  Each time he cut, that area was in need of blowing when I got home from work.  It should have been blown and cleared after the cut and edge was complete.  First Impressions are important.

BROKEN SCREEN DOOR!
On the 2nd Thursday of August, 2012, My wife came home from work and sat out on our back patio to eat.  While she did, She propped open the screen door to the pool surround so that our little dog and cat could come out and get fresh air, do their duty, etc.  She propped the door open about 8 inches using the little hydraulic door closer thingy that are on most  screen doors.  After she ate, she put the pets back in the house, but like most times, she forgot to close the screen.

When I got home at 5:30 that night, my lawn had been cut and edged and blown (except for the area in front of the front door.  As usual there was a pile of pine needles on my door mat.) I came in the house and walked to the back door to let the dog and cat out to do their business, play etc.

When I did, I noticed that the screen door had been FORCED SHUT but the hydraulic arm was still in the open or extended position.  The center of the aluminum door had been broken out from the force of someone pushing it shut, and both the top and bottom screens were ripped out because of it.  I looked at it and saw the little tab that holds the hydraulic arm was still extended and holding the arm open.  It was obvious that someone would have had to use a fair amount of force to push the door shut and rip that aluminum cross member out of the door damaging it and the screen.

After asking my wife about it, she assured me the door was open before she went back to work. I called Marc and told him about the damage and asked if he or his son had done it by accident?  Marc said he didn't think so but he would check with his son and get back with me.

3 weeks went by and Marc Batchelor never got back with me.  He continued to landscape my lawn but never addressed the broken door and never fixed it.  On Friday I got a bill in my door for next month's landscaping service from Street Scapes LLC, with Marc's phone number on it.  I called him and told him I would not be needing his services anymore.  I felt he should have followed up with me on the broken door, instead of blowing it off.  The screen and aluminum cross bracket will cost about $30.00 to replace and would take about 20minutes.  Instead, he lost a $130 per month contract and compromised his integrity.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
I feel like his Marc or his son broke my door but when asked about it he blew me off.  Today when I fired him, he lied about having phone trouble that's why he never got back with me (Really?? for 3 weeks, A business with no phone?)  None the less he denied breaking it.  They were the only ones that had access to my back yard between noon and 5pm that day!

To sum it up, Marc Batchelor Street Scapes LLC does a good job mowing and edging, but when it comes to his INTEGRITY and attention to detail like making sure the front door is blown out nice for the homeowner he gets an F.
