Editor’s Comment:  09/24/2019-.  Ripoff Report believes in transparency and the more information the better.  In this instance, there has been court action regarding this subject Report.  We believe it important to note that not all Court Orders are alike.  Many court orders are absolutely legitimate and we make no representations about this court order situation However, we want our users to be aware that sometimes courts enter orders based upon default which typically means that the defendant didn’t show up.  Sometimes a defendant won’t show up because they didn’t even get notice of the case proceedings in the first place and other times defendants may not show up because they don’t necessarily have the knowledge and/or the financial resources to fight.  Still, in other instances, a defendant may simply appear only to stipulate (settle) the case by agreeing to stipulate to a court order because they are being bullied by the plaintiff and whether what they said was true or not, they just want the matter to go away so they can move on with life and make the plaintiff go away.  Again, we make no representations about this particular court order situation.  We are simply providing you with additional information so that you may be more informed and, coupled with any additional research you feel is necessary, may make your own informed decision regarding the validity of this Report.  As always, we encourage our readers to do their homework and not just rely on one single source for information.  Google, through the Lumen Database, has provided the following document relating to this subject Report:

Marc R. May is a terrible attorney. This review is my opinion. I am so disgusted that I ran into this conman and wasted time. He talks like he knows what he is doing. He doesn't. He gives a huge sales pitch until he collects the retainer. You won't hear much from him until he needs more money. He feels no guilt about any actions or how they effect other people. Hustled me for business on another matter as well. I didn't bite. His assistant, Kim Ferguson, is equally as worthless as Mr. May. It's a tiny one man shop that bills like they know what they are doing and can get you any results that you couldn't get from a craigslist lawyer or legalzoom.com. I think he is afraid to go to court. He looked for any excuse he could to stay away from court. Allergic to court. He seems like he doesn't like confrontation which for an attorney is a hazard. Hazard is a good way to describe my feelings for Mr. May. General hazard, moral hazard, chemical hazard and oh by the way, with his accent, he sounds like he is off the set of the Dukes of Hazzard. Boss Hogg? More like that stuttering sheriff. Don't waste your time even paying for his consultation. It's also clear he's desperate for business. Very desperate. If he thinks he's got a live one, he will likely milk them until the Visa card is maxed out and the 401k is drained dry. After you've paid all of the money, you still won't have gotten close to your goal and he will stop working until you show up with more money. His business practices are truly disgusting and repulsive. Thankfully, he's getting on in years so I doubt he will be able to ply his vampire trade disguised as a family law practice for much longer. Again all of this is my personal opinion as a former client. Run don't walk from Marc R. May.

As the attorney on the other side of this case, I feel I must respond to this blatantly untruthful post regarding Mr. May.  This was a very complicated case, involving a foreign order from Germany that was many years old.  The statements made by Mr. Von Drechsel regarding Mr. May’s understanding of the case on the date the parties were scheduled for depositions is simply not true.

I had numerous discussions and conversations with Mr. May that day as we both poured over the facts of the case and discussed the legal issues, to say that Mr. May was “winging” the negotiations I find outrageous and a complete lie.  As the opposing attorney on the case based on my conversations and negotiations that day (along with further conversations and interactions after the day of the deposition) it was absolutely clear that Mr. May was very aware of the facts of the case and the issues involved.  Further, Mr. Von Dreschesl’s statement that his new attorney got him a deal with 3x the amount is absolutely false as I remained on the case and know the outcome.

Although I cannot comment on what discussions were had between Mr. May and his client as I was clearly not privy to those, I can say that both myself and Mr. May were of the mindset that our client’s should attempt settlement negotiations and try and reach a settlement due to the issues involved in the case and the costs involved.  I have known Mr. May for many years professionally and can say with certainty that when he is representing his clients, he most certainly is looking out for their best interests.

Sincerely,

Attorney at Law

We engaged Marc to help us recover funds owed to us by my wife's ex husband.  Marc took our deposit and set a course of action.  Our ask was whether we had a case or not.  He told us he could not answer that question until he heard the other side of the story.  He suggested a depostion as the best course of action.  In other words, instead of sending a series of interogatories, Marc decided on the most expensive approach which would require a court reporter.  We did not know better, so we trusted Marc.

It took three months to get to the deposition.  During the time Marc charged us to prepare for the deposition and to go back and forth with opposing council, all which seemed reasonable.

Then on the day of the deposition, Marc changed his mind and decided to settle.  He said it would save everybody time and money.  Which was not what he had agreed to because he said he needed to hear the other person's side of the story.  As the settlement negotiations started, Marc showed that he had no understanding of our case and had not reviewed our evidence.     This was not an easy case because the divorce had taken place in Germany.  Bottom line, Marc had charged us to prepare for the deposition and decided to "wing" the negotiations.

The settlement that Marc came up was very poor because he had no mastery of the details.  When we debriefed with him, he got very defensive, brought in his secretary and it was clear he was trying to protect himself.  The worse thing, is that he was billing me to answer questions as to why he had proceeded the way he had proceeded.  Basically, there is no time in front of Marc that we did not pay for.

To make a long story short, we engaged a different attorney.  The attorney was prepared and did his discovery through questionnaires.  We went into negotiations and settled on three times (3) the amount that Marc got.  The tragedy is that if Marc would have done his homework he could have gotten this settlement.  Instead, he just took us for a ride.

I have used Marc for several personal matters and received satisfaction with his efforts on my behalf.  He is a straight shooter, always made clear our path to sucess and what measure of sucess I could expect.  In both instances I arrived at successful outcomes.

Kim Ferguson was also very easy to work with and was always very responsive to my needs.

Billing from his practice was accurate and timely.

I would definitely recommend Marc and Kim to my friends and colleagues.

First of all, let me say I completely disagree with this man's "opinion" of Marc May and Kim Ferguson.  I do not know what his circumstances were or what case he had but I can say this, no person should be expected to work for free, and any type of litigation can be expensive.  Mr. May is not the cheapest attorney out there but you get what you pay for and I am very happy he is on my side.

Let me explain my experience.  I am currently going through what would be considered a VERY messy divorce.  I had a consultation with Mr. May and in that consultation he very bluntly told me what I was looking at, as far as money and time.  He did not pressure me for a retainer and he only laid out my options. I really appreciate Mr. May shooting it to me straight, and he has every time I talked to him.

Now, let me be clear he is very direct with what he says but he is one of the nicest people I think I have ever met.  I will admit I was extremely nervous going into court for one of our temporary hearings, where my (hopefully soon to be ex- husband) would take the stand and so would I.  I was worried that Mr. May would be too nice to him. WOW, was I wrong.

It was like watching a knock out fight.  The shots kept coming and my soon to be ex - didn't know what hit him, of course when you lie on the stand and your attorney is so fast/sharp and knows your case so well, Mr. May made it look easy.  It was like what you see on TV!

We achieved what we needed to that day, and he saved me money.  My case is nowhere close to being done but I am confident with Mr. May on my side we will win.

Now Kim Ferguson, wow. What can I say...  She is amazing. I am very much a TYPE A personality and therefore I research and ask a lot of questions. She is very compassionate and caring.  I don't call just to "gripe" about my ex- because that is what your friends are for; I call or email her to discuss different issues that arise.  And if she doesn't know the answer she will say "I am not sure or I don't know - let me get back to you on that after I talk to Mr. May."

I appreciate the honesty.  BUT 99.9% of the time she does know the answer to my question(s) and is able to give me the legal reasoning behind the answers.  I usually have a list of questions I email her and she is very diligent about returning my email that same day or the next (depending on when I send it) with my questions answered. And she NEVER seems to be in a hurry or aggravated by my lists... lol

Listen, I know I am not their only case BUT they make me feel as if I am and I really appreciate them. I will let you know the results of my case!!!  And the amazing job they did for me!

I felt compelled to respond to a report I happened upon when I goggled Attorney Marc May for directions to his office.  I have Known Mr. May, by reputation, for many years.  As a 50-year resident of Odessa, Texas, I can assure you that he was a pillar of our community.  I had the privilege of meeting him 20 years ago in a setting that allowed me to observe him as a father and husband.  He is a dedicated family man.  I was incredibly shocked by the complaintants accusations and character assassination on an attorney who has built a stellar practice and ethical career in the law profession.  Marc's career spans decades and his performance and behavior is legendary in Midland/Odessa.  After moving to East Texas, I had the misfortune of encountering some serious family issues that required professional legal help.  I knew Mr. May had moved to this area, and I did not hesitate to search him out in order to seek his services.

I would like to address several of Mr. J.D.'s unsubstantiated and unfair claims. The first thing that Mr. May did when we schedules "a free consultation" was listen to our issues.  When he determined that he could help us, he addressed his fees and his method of billing.  He discloses his monetary requirement verbally and in written form.  I asked him how much a case like this would cost and he gave us an approximation.  We were well aware of the potential charge when we made our decision to retain him.   The first thing he suggested was mediation, which he said would be the most economical way to go.  Attorney May advised us that going to court was a risk and the most expensive means to a resolution.  He even offered to recommend a less expensive attorney.  As I previously stated, I was very aware of Mr. May’s reputation as a litigator and I wanted someone I could trust with a situation that we felt was life or death to us.  Along our Journey, Mr. May tried his best to reason with the party to our suit and to come to a resolution that would be favorable to both parties and the young ones that it would affect.  We eventually ended up in court.  Now to address the accusation that Mr. May is afraid to go to court. We worked closely with Mr. May, and had gathered all the information that he requested. He did not request numerous unnecessary meetings that would eat up our retainer. He contacted us in the most efficient and economical way.  He uses written correspondence or brief phone calls. He was very mindful and diligent with our funds.  We meet a few days before our court appearance for several hours and put together our presentation.  Wow, what an impressive litigator Mr. May proved to be.  Not everything I had heard about his reputation did him justice.  One word describes his performance, Brilliant.  He took a large accumulation of evidence and weaved it in to a structured and incredible presentation that left my family speechless.  We walked away very satisfied and happy.  Did it cost?  Yes, it did, and it was within the range he had quoted us before taking the case.  Thank you Attorney Marc May.  You and your firm’s title of Super Lawyers are well deserved.  Mr. J.D., it is not a one-man operation. I was personally introduced to the partners.  This firm is exemplary.  A lawyer is only as effective as the information he is given to present.  Mr. May is a junk yard dog that uses class, respect and temperament to bolster his incredible skills as an attorney.
