FRAUD ALERT : Pennell Design LLC !

Stay away from this nightmare of a contractor. We had a horrific experience.

Pennell Design took our money - both for services and actual hard goods - and delivered close to nothing in return. When we became suspicious and tried to get a refund, low & behold, our money was gone and Pennell refused and still refuses to repay us our money.

Mark Pennell will have you believe that he is an "architect," but he is in fact unlicensed as such. (Unlicensed architects are only allowed to call themselves "designers.") You can check on your "Architect" here: http://www.op.nysed.gov/opsearches.htm

Pennell performed work for us as a home contractor, but it turns out he is also unlicensed here (as per the New York Dept of Consumer Affairs - Always check with them here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dca/html/licenses/license_check.shtml

Quite possibly, he also runs the typical contractor ponzi scheme where he takes your money and uses it for someone else's job... In any event, this character indeed has a criminal history: See here:

... to point out that the weblink to the NY Criminal Court in my original posts referred to an open/pending case involving Mr. Pennell. That criminal case against Mr. Pennell, in which I was the complainant, has since been discontinued and Mr. Pennell does not have a criminal conviction at this time to my knowledge. (Info re: Criminal Histories / Criminal Records in NY: www.nycourts.gov/apps/chrs )

I used Mark Pennell to perform architectural design services at my summer home in the Catskills. He designed an addition to my unit.
He was reasonably priced, easy to deal with and designed a beautiful and structurally sound addition. He improved on the suggestions of my contractor and I am most pleased with the product, the process and the person who who is Mark Pennell. Also, I think that the criminal record referred to by the first negative reviewer were filed by that reviewer. I see no long history and from what I can see, the case against Mr. Pennell has not beend proven as yet.
I recommend Mark Pennell as evidenced byf the work he has done for me. I would use him again

Here is further information about how Pennell Design LLC ripped us off :

Mark Pennell of Pennell Design accepted money from us (tens of thousands of dollars) which was specifically earmarked to pay for the purchase and delivery of specific hard items such as:

4 Doors
2 Windows
Cabinetry
An entire ductless Air Conditioning System

Of the above, we received a grand total of ZERO. NOTHING.

And though we requested it several times, we never got our money back for these items. "Pick-Pocket" Pennell simply pocketed our money and to this very day refuses to return it.

In addition, Pennell even also refuses to refund us for items & equipment that we paid-for & received but that he then subsequently returned to the supplier for a refund (to himself).

Not surprisingly, Pennell also never bothered to pay his subcontractors for work that we had paid Pennell for, so of course now they're all pissed off too!

Pennell also freely charged on his invoices tens of thousands of dollars worth of "phantom" work that we simply never ever even received, plain & simple. (Masonry work, concrete work, etc...)

To make matters worse, Mark Pennell / Pennell Design caused untold amounts of damage to our house that we will now have to fix & pay-for just to continue with the renovation job in our home.

The list goes on and on but you get the idea...

Let the freedom of this information ring. Let justice prevail.
