A young man and woman came and knocked on my door and said they were from the University of Long Beach (80 mi away) and were selling magazines for personal use or I could send a subscription to the the troops overseas. They said it was a contest and the winner would get $1000.00 cash and a trip to some far off land I don't remember. So I opted to buy two for $63.00 ea (one from each of them) and send them to the troops as I have friends and family who are or were military.

I asked them if they were thirsty and they said yes so I  had my daughter go grab them a couple of water bottles, set them on the front porch but as soon as they had checks in hand they said thanks and started to walk, I said you forgot your bottles and they replied it's ok, obviously wanting to split fast.

I watched them walk to the end of the driveway and to the right but as I walked past my front window I saw they had doubled back and gone to the left. So I thought something might be fishy and Googled MFA and Marquis Fulfillment Agency and Blamo tons of rip off reports and fraud reports! I walked to the edge of my drive and saw them sitting on the curb just a ways down so I came back in and did a little more research and said I'm going to get my checks back!

Went and strapped my UNloaded 45 cal on my hip (intimidation never hurts and legal to carry unloaded in site in Ca) and drove to track them down, found the guy walking and he walked up to the passenger side of the car 45 in full site and I started asking questions like , do you really go to Cal State Long Beach, where's your car parked and so on. He said he was dropped off by a supervisor and I asked for the number which he gave up, Dialed and talked to a woman named Denise who was familiar with him but not his completely false sales pitch of course , then I asked about the magazines making it to the troops and she said if there is no address that I would have specified that there's no way to send them there! complete BS! So I got my check back from this guy told he better watch his ways and who he's scamming and proceeded to find the young lady.

I received a call from the supervisor who had dropped them off and he had apparently taken her a couple miles away and told me he had arranged for her to meet me at a convenience store near by to get my other check back. So I drove over and got it and told her if they were honest I may have bought a magazine anyway but all complete lies and BS is just wrong! she apologized and I was on my way back home with all my money intact!

They Run a Good Con Game

#2General Comment

Mon, August 27, 2012

Good for you.  They have run this con job on numerous people.  They enjoy preying on older individuals and use their sob stories to influence you to purchase their overpriced magazines.  I shared a story on another complaint forum regarding these people.  Their tactics are shameful and the company does nothing to stop these "contractors" from continuing these practices.  I tried calling the company's listed number and only received a recording.  I left two voice mails and they never returned my calls.  I sent them a certified letter and never received a reply.

The company is rated "F" by the BBB.  I went back an forth with an employee of this company on this site.  He was initially defending their tactics and blamed you, the buyer for purchasing the items.  In the end he tried to back off his initial position since it was indefensible.

You have my admiration.
