I just wanted to add some of the newer incarnation of the same scam. I interviewed at both Matlin Marketing and the Ivins Group, and can't believe how similar my interview experiences were - to each other, and to other reports here from "different" businesses.

When I went in to interview, there were 3 or 4 other people waiting to be interviewed at the same time. Everyone in the office was in their 20s. I went in for a ridiculously quick interview, then they called me back that night to tell me they wanted to see me for a second interview. For this one, I'd have to come in at 8:45 and hang out job shadowing one of their managers until 6:00. This was both companies. When I got home from this last one and tried to look up some information, there is none. On either company. All that I found were links to other job postings, and eventually this report.

Ripoff report saved me so much trouble, and I hope if you find yourself in a similar interview situation, that it'll save you too. Don't even bother going on an interview with these people, and if you're in a similar situation, don't go on the second interview. I know I won't.

Ok..First of all, im extrememly imbarrased to say I actually got a call from these circus clowns for an interview, and actually fell for it. They spoke extremely smooth on the telelphone, and It sounded decent enough. I get to the interview and there are three other young guys all dressed to the 10's with wide bright eyes waiting to be interviewed. They take us in the room and ramble for a few minutes about how great the company and their ring leader Matt is. They procede on to asking us questions about our attitudes and ambitions, this is when my third eye took over and I knew I had walked into something that just did'nt feel quite right. They call me after the interview and break me the great news, I was one of the lucky ones out of the first round that got a shot at a second interview! Im afraid to say I never made it to the second interview. After some brief research I found out that the job has absolutely nothing to do with marketing like they propose "Matlin Marketing". What it intails is actually a long day of walking door to door trying to pick up customers for their campaigns which at the time was Verizion FIos high speed internet. I assume they somehow manage to set up some type of contract, which wouldnt be hard, with Verizon to sell their service. They then have someone call literally hundreds of people for interviews, which I assume they would have to have almost every week because of the big roll over of workers that catch on and finally quit! They probably even have to 1099 you, because you are actually nothing more then a sub contractor for them! I recently landed a very decent job with a very decent company with salary, commision, and benefits. There are jobs out there people, all you have to do is know where to look and know who to stay away from and believe me these guys are the later two. I almost forgot! While at the interview all their subjects were in a back room in the little office at 7 AM chanting and hollaring for about twenty minutes, it actually sent chills up my spine! Almost cult like. This company while legal, "maybe" is in my opinion a definite no no.

My daughter has been working with the Ivins Group for the past two months and absolutely loves it. Though I had my doubts at first about the company, she has made me change my mind about these types of companies with her positive outlook on life. My daughter graduated in December 07 and did a bunch of interviews all through January. When she came back from her interview with the Ivins Group, I was very hesitant. She described her day as promoting the Venetian Spa in a corporate business area in the Waterfront. Having just spent a good deal of money sending our daughter to Duquesne University to get her degree in marketing, the thought that she would be doing outside sales did not sit well with me. She said the man she interviewed with was extremely fun and knowledgeable and thought the company was a great place to work. Obviously I was more concerned with what her salary would be as well as benefits. Not happy with where she would be starting at, I highly discouraged her from joining the firm. After a few fights, we agreed on her accepting the position and I just prayed that I would not have to tell her I told you so. After two weeks of her working there I still had my severe doubts and she was too early in the company to really be able to answer most of my questions. I guess she had taken it upon herself to ask her boss if he would be willing to speak with me and answer my questions. I received a phone call in the afternoon from the Director Rob, who politely introduced himself and offered to meet to go over any questions I had for him. My husband and I decided that it would be in our daughter's best interest to learn more about what she is doing and who she is working with. After meeting with Rob who thoroughly answered all of our questions, I was put slightly more at ease that she was in trusting hands. He was a very polite and seemingly sincere young man. Though I still wasn't fully understanding everything, I felt comfortable enough that my daughter was capable of making good decisions for herself so I let the topic rest and figured if she was happy, I would be supportive. Day after day my daughter would come home so excited about what she had learned and different stories of the day. I had never seen my daughter change in such a short amount of time. Her 4 1/2 years at college did not even evoke such a swift change. She has been so excited of going into work each day which boggles me because she leaves at 7 in the morning and doesn't get home until almost 7 at night. She is so full of life and loves working with her peers. Though I do not believe that this company is something that I would choose to work when I graduated college, I have never seen my daughter so happy and would never take that away. I have been reading a few of these articles about the Ivins Group and cannot help but think that these are all people who either did not give the company a chance like myself initially, or are just upset that you can actually be successful in a very short period of time, you just have to actually work hard and do whatever it takes to get there. I'm not here to persuade anybody one way or another whether this is a great company or not. I just wanted to write in my experience with my daughter because I have never seen her so happy. And I can only imagine that the world would be a better place if everybody was that happy each and every day to show up at a job.

I am a senior at Penn State University and was reading up on certain companies on this website and came across the posting for the Ivins Group, and thought I'd put my facts out there. In April of 2007 I interviewed with them for a summer internship it is a three round interview process, and I dont see the strangeness of a company calling you back after they interviewed you to tell you they'd like to meet with you again. Especially being an up and coming college grad I appreciated the opportunity that I was presented. After accepting the 2nd interview I recieved a 3rd where they hired me to do my internship. I learned more in this summer about marketing and promotions and how to use my people skills then I did in the 3 years at a major University. I also just wanted to address one more issue that was written, the entire office, not that I think it really matters, was not in there 20's. My supervisor was a 43 year old man, and the ages varied all throughout the office.
