Mavis Discount Tire (Barnegat,NJ) Rip-Off!!!! Barnegat New Jersey
August 17, 2016. On vacation in LBI and brakes start making noise like bad pads. I had them done at Mavis in my home town about 3 months ago so I DROVE the car to Mavis in Barnegat as they are still under warranty. Dropped the car off then got the call.
Mechanic stated all 4 calipers and rotors need to be replaced. "All 4 locked up". Strange, as I drove there with no issue other than noise when hard braking. They are / were not locked up. Stranger still he tells me "Serpentine belt frayed and came off pulleys." Okay then that happened between the time I dropped it off and when they pulled it into shop? When I dropped it off all was working (AC, Alt., PS etc..) except the brake noise? got a $1212 quote.This sounded really sketchy and I was sorry I even took it in. I told him to not proceed with any work and I would pick up the car. On picking upp the car the belt was off. Again when I dropped it off no issue. The odds of it "breaking" in the minutes they had possesion are highly unlikely. They were all watching from garage as I checked things out. For a minute thought of going and raising hell but figured that would get me nowhere so I cut my losses. Luckily there was a Goodyear about a block away so I took it there. I just wanted the belt fixed at this point. Good Year fixed the belt with no extra BS. Also, I had the oil changed before I left and after reading some reports about Mavis I decided to check the oil (2 quarts low? No leaks?)It may be the location (vacation spot) that makes them think they can rip people off but Im not sure. So in short, STAY FAR AWAY from this place. DO NOT LET THEM SERVICE YOUR VEHICLE IN ANY CAPACITY Just hoping they didnt screw with anything else.
