Recently, I was able to purchase my first home and in doing so, I needed a reliable and careful moving team to move the heavier furniture pieces that I could not handle with the available hands I had helping me. Mayflower had been recommended to me by several people that had good experiences when they moved, so I researched on the internet and came across Mayflower moving and storage. I emailed Mayflower to get a quote request and they came back with a quote for $549.50 for a four man team to move my items less than 1/2 mile to my new home. This quote included padding the furniture and careful handling of the items. I explaimed to the Customer Service rep, Mike Book, that my furniture did not have any marks or damages and that the items that were to be moved were heavier and would need more hands to handle. He responded "No problem, my teams are trained professionals". So I scheduled the truck to be at the home I was moving out of at 8am. So starts my nightmare...At 10:30am, there was no sign of the truck and when I called to find out where the truck was, I was told it was in front of the house. I told the dispatcher, Robert, there was no truck in front of the house...he said the truck was in front of the house, I said NO, I'm standing in front of the house and there is NO truck..He told me "Don't tell me NO" Five minutes later the truck was in front of the house I was moving out of.

I had accepted the quote for the padding of the furniture, but did not accept the shrinkwrapping of the padding. Again, I called the dispatcher and told him to stop the team from using the shrink wrap, but by the time Robert got back to the team, the shrink wrapping was done and the furniture was loaded on to the truck. When the team got to the new house, I was asked to pay for the move and found out that the shrinkwrapping cost me an additional $600.00. Like all of the other reports that I reviewed, I had to pay before the furniture was offloaded and put into place in the new house.

Here's step two of the ongoing nightmare, folks. Every piece of furniture that was handled, barring one amoire and one television, has damages done to it. And to top it all off, My new refridgerator was left behind and to have them send another truck to retrieve it was going to cost me equal to the first move. I had another truck company go to pick it and a workbench (also left behind) up and move it as Mayflower Moving and Storage would not send a truck until the next week. This was unacceptable as the new tenants were to move into that house on that day and my items had to be moved out. The truck cost me another $312.00.

Getting back to the damages, my wahser and dryer were in pristine condition when the movers came and now have damages that can not be repaired. My 1 year old executive desk has cracked facia board from top to bottom from the wrong bolt being driven in too far, my Three piece Entertainment center has a total of 15 scrapes and gouges, and one amoire has a door that has been sprung. Repairs on the furniture will cost another $400.00.

This is an overview of the handling. I haven't even got to the "Customer Service" attitude. I was told that if I had any problems, to call him. After the sale, the Customer service person, Mike Book, was on the phone, out to lunch and gone for the day, when I tried to get the problems taken care of. I asked for the Manager and when I was told that he was unavailable, I asked for his name, Adam Miller. When I tried to speak to him on three occaisions, he also was conviently out of the office or gone for the day.

Like many of the others on this website, I assumed that this company was affliated with Mayflower Transit as a subsidiary, and wrote to the President of the company of the ongoing nightmare I'm having. I followed up with a call and spoke to the Presidents secretary, who was kind enough to explaine that this company was not one of their agents and that Mayflower Transit and United Van Lines were a corporate affliation. She was also very helpful in giving me this website.

So, If anyone reading this has any good advice on how to let Mayflower Moving and Storage have it, please feel free to contact me at (((Redacted)))
