Maytag washer, model# SAV515DAWW crapped out on me after just 4 years, paying $500, less a $30 scratch fee. after checking out this washer online, i found out that many people had the same problem with the boot having to be replaced. we had waived our warrenty because of the scratch but others had tried to get theirs repaired by repairmen only to get the run around by Maytag. since, i found out that Maytag is now Whirlpool, so, BUYER BEWARE.

years ago i was given a Kenmore apt sized washer that hooks up to a faucet, and it was about 20 years old aready. not having a washer i was happy to snap it up. after 9 years my husband replaced the pump, and we finally got a full sized washer from a jobsite he was working at and customer bought a new one...had that one for 4 years, go figure, pay full price and get less out of a new product, Maytag repairmen must be on vacation!!now i found out my dryer needs a new ignition. my luck. i am off now to post a complaint about Perfect Flame Split Lid Grill. good luck ya all!!

I am sorry but as a retailer in USA or Canada, I feel it is despicable to carry and support any manufacturer that either carries substandard or defective prone product or has a horrible customer service policy when things do go wrong.
Just because your retail store does not manufacturer the product you sell does not mean that you are all of a sudden immune from earning the trust and loyalty of your consumer base by using the old line, sorry you need to contact the manufacturer direct. That is horse crap.  I am an importer /distributor and I sell to over 6000 specialty independent stores and I will tell you what... you will not see specialty stores supporting a manufacturer or distributor that sells crap, or does not stand behind what they sell.

A retailers first priority and ultimate responsibility should be making sure thier customers (the people that keep these chains in business) are taken care of and not left in a David & Goliath position dealing direct with the big manufacturers.  That is the retailers job, not the end consumer.  If we sold crap or had a tough luck attitude towards the retailer or consumer like Whirlpool and Home depot do, will it would not be long before I started losing retail accounts left, right and center.

Don't get me wrong, I hate a consumer that abuses and uses a system also. They should have a receipt and if they do not they should be able to prove they bought the merchandise form the retailer they are returning the product to.
But the fact is here, Whirlpool is selling expensive appliances that are only getting a 5 - 6 year life span and that is ludicrous.  The guy who said that 10 years from an appliance is considered great...what are you smoking?  Do you know how poor we would be buying new appliances every 10 years? Hey, if they are made to last 5 - 10 years than price them that way. We do not expect to pay a price for a 25 year appliance and have it last 5 years. WTF! We can go buy Danby or some other no name product than.  When a consumer buys a name brand like Whirlpool or Frigidaire or whatever, they are putting trust that their hard earned money is going into a decent long life , excellent customer service backed product.  All of which Whirlpool is clearly not.  And don;t give me the line that poor old Whirlpool inherited Maytags poorer quality and problems. If Whirlpool did not want to assume the responsibility and risk of this merger than they could have let Maytag be and steer clear.  But since they bought the company that makes them responsible to make sure consumers are not getting screwed out of their money. Plain and simple.

Selling merchandise for over 23 years I know everything is susceptible to defects. It;s not what the defects are, it;show you deal with the people who have them.  Good companies will prosper and crappy ones like Whirlpool will die slowly.
And retailer that continue to carry and support a brand that builds 5 - 6 year longevity products and has horrible policies at customer service level are equally guilty and responsible. they are enablers.  They can always choose a brand that helps their companies image over one like Whirlpool.

I own a Maytag/Whirlpool Dual Oven range that after the clean cycle (which by the way is like a toggle switch for disaster for these ranges..use this option and suffer) blew the control board but only after turning on all by itself in the middle of the night and burning the handles off my heirloom cast iron pans and starting a near fire in the kitchen.  Than to have a Whirpool customer service supervisor tell me sorry, there is nothing they can do and that 5 - 6 years is the expectancy on a $1600.00 range and I would need to buy a $500.00 control board and pay to have it installed. They would not even know the price down or anything.  The worst service ever that I have experienced.  STEER CLEAR OF WHIRLPOOL.  Do some Go-ogling and see how many ranges, convection microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines etc break down after 5 - 6 years..... Steer clear and go with a far better brand. And stop supporting the retailers that support the horrible product brands and pass the buck to the manufacturer.

Those are the facts guys.  You can spin doctor it all you want but common sense always prevails.

Before you spend 500 dollars on anything. Look up reviews and information on the object. If you know how to post a complaint on the internet, you know how to look up products.

Dear Yiayia,

Apparently you know how to work a washing machine but do not know the existence and necessity of a DRYING MACHINE to complete your laundry experience.

Wow,I thought I was the only one that understood this. Home Depot did not build the appliance, take it up with whirpool. Also why would a Buyer be aware of purchasing a maytag washer built by whirlpool. The one You bought was built by MAYTAG, this all prior to the takeover. I wonder why whirlpool owns maytag, problems like this,oh yeah not to mention the all hated word of NEPTUNE. oh by the way whirlpool also builds better washers than maytag ever did and now own figure 70% of the US washer market. So think before you post nonsense. These machines are also not built to work 20 years anymore. You get 10 years you got more than your $$$worth. I dont work for HD, but have been in the appliance bussiness for 10 years and I just wish people would understand how things work.

Who made this machine Maytag or Home Depot? Which company's name is on the warranty?

First...The Home Depot did not make the machine, Maytag did. Second...If this problem happened within the standard 90 return period, you should have had little problem returning it and getting another one. Third...If after the 90 return period it is Whirlpool/Maytag's problem with your machine. Period. Fourth... HOME DEPOT didn't build it, MAYTAG DID. HOME DEPOT didn't warranty it, MAYTAG did. File the complaint against the proper company. I've seen it 999,999 times, a customer buys a product at Home Depot, refuses the extended warranty. Product is defective, falls apart, ABUSED by said customer. Customer attempts to return product after standard return period, or without a receipt. IT SIMPLY IS NOT the retailer that makes this stuff folks. It is the manufacturer that does, it is the manufacturer that warranty's the product, not the retailer. File your complaint against the right company.
