Carol is right on the money. Never divulge your banking information to these companies, once you open that pandora's box, they can access your account any time they want. Set up bill pay with your bank or credit union. It is free at most places, and most bill payment systems will guarentee that your payment will arrive on time, or they will pay the fees. (that assumes that you made the payment in a timely manner) When you make an online payment the system will tell you when they payment will hit your credit card, or whatever payee you chose. Allow extra time for your first payment, it generally has a setup time attached to it.

Tired of their criminalesque behavior, I paid off my balance with MBNA and will now wait for them to beg for my business back by offering me the lowest interest rates around. For a small business owner like me, this is the best strategy. Unfortunately, there must be thousands of people out there who do not have that option, in which case it is only a matter of time for them to get screwed with the highest possible interest rates around. Bottom line is: no other businesses can get away with charging extra to make your payment ON THE DUE DATE. As far as I know, no other credit card companies are doing it yet either, but they probably will try once they hear MBNA is getting away with it. Where is the outrage?

The same thing happened to me with regards to MBNA. They seem to go out of their way to make it hard for customers to pay them. I set it up to pay from my bank not on their web site, and to have alerts as to due dates etc. Either transfer debt to another card company or pay them off asap. If your credit is good you should have no trouble transfering debt to another card. Good luck to you.
