December 8th I've ordered pizza as part of a mystery-shopping gig from Measure CP. It started out like any typical gig (I've worked for several mystery-shoppers agencys prior to this). I printed the material a few days in advance and read it and reread it. I ordered my pizza and wrote down the requested information on there website.

Forty-Five minutes latter my pizza arrived hot and fresh. I began taking photos placing it under the kitchen light I had available. They latter cite many reasons for rejecting my job claiming the pictures were to dark. I don't understand how as I've done several gigs with the same camera and lighting before and never had a problem.

A few full days latter I finaly got notice of the rejection via email. They said the photo was "to dark" and told me to resend photos. I couldn't resend photos as the pizza is alreadly consumed and send them the following response.

"Hello,

I'm writing in regards to an email I received declining my job.

The provided Top View, Side View and Cut View Pizza Photos are dark. -It was placed under the brightest light source I had available.

The Top View Pizza Photo had the Tag ID partially covering the Pizza. Please send proper Top View, Side View and Cut View Pizza photos.- All the photos were taken well over a week ago.

The ID only covers a tiny part of the crust on the top view. The Instructions clearly say that the purpose is to evaluate the spread of the toppings in question. You can clearly see the toppings so I don't think there should be a problem with this You can use the top view to evaluate the crust.

Bottom line is the pizza is already consumed as this job was done almost a week ago. What are my options now to get the proper reimbursement I was promised?"

After this email he tells me that the pepper was not in view of the camera. I found the pepper after taking my pizza apart to eat it. It was below a slice of pizza. Am I suppose to alter the presentation of the pizza to show it when Papa Johns clearly needs to know that it was under as I don't think that that was quality?

I've attached the photos (To protect my identity I blured the shopping id and the location in question). Please tell me what you think...I've attached the photos and you can be the judge.

I would be willing to bet that they had you sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement(NDA). That would basically state that you are not allowed to discuss either the MS company or the resturant you "shopped". So there is a good chance that you are in violation of that agreement. Notice that this"comment" does not mention any company or resturants you may or may not have "shopped".

If you really think "bluring" the id numbers will protect your identity. It won't be very hard to match up all of the "shops" that were done on December 8th where they had to reject it and sent a letter to send corrected photos.

By the way if you were denied because the pictures were too dark, or the requirements were to show the entire picture without any of the pizza obstructed you did not complete the requirements and they have every right to withhold payment...per the agreement you signed.

But if you still really think you did nothing wrong then why not tell them you posted on RoR. I think you may be surprised at their reaction.

#3Consumer Suggestion

I have personally done several of these shops for MCP. If you recall, there are strict restrictions for the photos. Absolutely no part of the pizza can be covered by the id card thing. Also, your pictures are so dark that I can barely tell what toppings are on the pizza. Also, the photo with the peppers is supposed to be a shot of the whole pizza showing the pepper in the box. Did you look at your pictures vs the ones in the instructions before submitting the shop? If you had, you'd have taken more pictures. And rule #1 is always take multiple pictures of each required shot angle just in case they need another one after you submit. Be glad they're not requiring the cut slices photo anymore.

I do shops all the time with MCP. They always pay what they say they will and on time. I've never had any problems with them at all. If the person who wrote the complaint would have used a flash, the pictures wouldn't have been so dark.

I have the same exact story here in NJ. I noticed the "hold pay" status message on the shop log. I contacted Kiki right away via email. She told me not to worry about it. It was a technical glich. Two months after the assignment was completed, I'm now being told the shop will be rejected (not has been) because the pictures are too dark, too small & every other excuse in the book. In my message to Donnie Preacher, I stated I could understand not being compensated the $8 shop fee but expect to be compensated for my out of pocket expenses. The reply was "if they don't get paid, I won't get paid". I intend to file a complaint with Consumer Affairs, BBB, the Attorney General's Office & Papa John's International (MCP's client). Not for nothing, the instructions state to place the pizza on the floor to take the pictures, where there is the least amount of light! And the main complaint is the pictures are too dark??

I, just like you, have performed numerous mystery shops in the past. I've done many just recently where photos were required & I used the same exact camera phone as I did for this assignment. Never was I told that I wasn't getting paid because the photos were too dark or too small.
