The sign probably said 50% off brake pads/shoes. That's 50% off the cost of the brake pads themselves, not the labor, rotors, shop/environmental fees, sales tax, or anything else. You failed to state what kind of vehicle you have. Some vehicles require more labor, such as repacking wheel bearings on certain trucks or replacing certain rotors found on some late 90's Honda Accords.
Did you replace pads and rotors both on the front and rear on during your first purchase in 2012? Or did you simply replace brake pads on one axle and turn the rotors? If youre a hard braker, once those pads wear down again, the rotors can't be turned twice. Did you end up needing calipers or wheel cylinders replaced on your second visit? Does your vehicle require pad wear sensors?
There are so many different components involved in the braking system...not just the brake pad or shoe. That lifetime warranty probably only applies to the cost of the pads/shoes themselves. This wouldn't include the labor or any other component involved. Have you read the back of your invoice, where all warranty information is in fine print?
