On October 5, 2003 we went to Mel Clayton Ford to look for a new vehicle that turned into a nightmare. They tried to initially sell us a new 2003 mustang, but due to the inability to reach an agreement on the price, we decided to keep looking.

As we were about to leave, they offered a 2002 mustang with very little miles at that time they told us they were going to give us $6400 for my trade in which was $1100 above pay off and we would give a down payment of $500. At this point they did not tell us they were going to add more to the price of the vehicle to compensate for a possible loss they could have taken (why should they if they can find a consumer that will absorb it unknowingly through raising the price of the vehicle they are selling).

I realized the problem about 24 hours later when reviewing the contract and found a $2009 difference in the price that was advertised and the price that they sold the vehicle for. A call was made to Mel Clayton and I spoke to Mike in used sales. He explained we took a $1600 loss on the trade in that was added to the price of the car, but could not explain the extra $400 and told me that we would have to come in to sign a new contract with the correct amounts stated.

When calling them the next day and speaking to Tran, he stated that they now were reducing the trade in price by $700 and there was only $100 unaccounted for which they would give us some free gas for (is the gas going to pay the interest we are charged for that?

Last time I checked that would be a BIG NO) the price difference but refused to rewrite the contract or give me anything that was signed by myself accepting the 4800 or 4100 offering price for my vehicle. They state it is standard procedure not to inform the customer of the trade in offer and just write it in the contract.

THIS IS THIEVERY AND THEY SHOULD BE STOPPED. THEY BLIND SIDE THEIR CUSTOMERS AND TELL THEM THEY CAN DO NOTHIING AFTER THE CONTRACT HAS BEEN SIGNED. This is ludicrous and should be stopped any suggestions?

Thank you ripoffreport.com, I just spoke to the great thorn who gave very educating and insightful information regarding mel clayton and others that have done people wrong and what can be done to stop them. He/She is a great asset to the ripoffreport for which the company should be greatful to have his knowledge and assertiveness to go the extra mile to help consumers fight the untruthful auto sales industry that bullies people into buying vehicles.
