I received a letter in the mail, post marked from Correos Madrid, Spain informing me they were an affiliate of Consumer Survery Specialists and indicated my interest in becoming a secret shopper.

There was a check enclosed with this letter for $1995.50 of which I was to log onto their website with the user ID and password provided in the letter to activate the check, then take the check to my bank and deposit it.  I was then to wait for the check to clear and remove $350 for my participation pay the first week, go home and pull up their website again for the first assignment and complete that within 24 hours.

The first assignment was to go to a Western Union and wire $998 plu $68 handling fee to Elrod Sundstrom in Madrid Spain, and fax the evaluation form to my coordinator at a given fax number.

The second assignment was to take $52.50 to my choice of stores and purchase what I wanted with that amount and then fax the evaluation form and receipts to my coordinator again.

Before I would do anything, I did some research on the internet and could not find anything about this particular company.  The phone number is a working number.  Next, I went to the bank this check was written on to see if it was a valid check.  The check looks very authentic with watermarks and all, written on a Bank of America check. Because I do not have an account at Bank of America they would not verify that this was a legitimate check or not; but they would not cash it either.

I am in the process of turning this over to the authorities because it is a scam.  Companies they include in their scam are Walmart, Kmart, Rite Aid, Sears, The Home Depot, Office Depot, Costco and Best Buy.  So consumer beware if you receive this type of letter, which looks very official and authentic because it is not.
