So, I live in Millville New Jersey with my wife and small child. We are first time home owners. Our home was built in 1926 and when we purchased it, we knew some of the electrical work would need to be replaced. After about three years it was time to have the work done as it was mid August and every time our air conditioner came on it would cause all of the other electrical systems to shut down. My wife called mister sparky and set up an appointment for the next day. The technician, Dustin, who was coming from their egg harbor township office arrived on time and did an inspection of the house and gave us a quote to the tune of $6208. It seemed pretty steep to me but I am not an electrician and i knew there no was no way I could let my family continue to suffer through the heat when the problem could be fixed.

Although $6208 was no small amount for us, it was made a bit more approachable through financing options and came with a 10 year warranty, which was a huge selling point for us. We signed the contract and set up an appointment. They arrived on time and did the job which included a brand new fusebox. Honestly, I was still kicking myself a bit over the price: over $6000 for less than a days work seemed pricey, not to mention they completely destroyed one of my flower beds without ever bothering to bring it to my attention. At the end of the day, we had our air conditioning back and the fridge was back on so we thought we had made the right decision. Just over two years into the warranty our dryer stopped working.

We have a warranty on that as well from Home Depot and had them send someone out to check it; the dryer was fine but was not getting any power. I had a friend whose an electrician come out to take a look (sadly we were not acquainted when we needed the work done originally). He took out a multimeter tool and traced it from the dryer to fusebox, which is where the problem is. I had my wife call mister sparky the next day to let them know and was blown away by what I could glean from the conversation she was having. Finally, I asked her to hand me the phone and, again, was completely shocked by the responses I was getting. In short, mister sparky, which is a national company with branches all over, told me that the specific branch I used was no longer in business and that there weren't any branches within a "reasonable distance" that could service us.

Seems pretty convenient for them since they were paid in full in less than a year because the interest on the loan jumps up to around 20% for EVERYTHING borrowed (including what has been paid) if it's not paid off in the first year. After spending over two hours on the phone being shuffled around to not only different departments but also different companies, some of which are not even part of the mister sparky family I finally reached a manager. I explained my story for about the 15th time that day and she basically told me they weren't going to help me. I asked how it could be legal for mister sparky to offer a 10 warranty and not honor it simply due to the branch I happened to use closing, to which she had no response. Avoid using mister sparky; they do value their customers AT ALL!
