I purchased a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport brand new. It ran well and I didn't have any problems until the lease was going to end.

Before the lease was going to end, I received a phone call asking me what I was going to do about my vehicle. They wanted to know if I was going to turn it in, keep it, sell it, or finish purchasing it. I had already had it for 4 years. I explained to them that I don't drive it anymore. I had purchased an extended cab truck and was just waiting for the lease to run out. My payments were all paid up and they weren't owed anything.

Around 2 weeks before I was due to turn it in, it became missing from my driveway. Being young, I assumed that because of the conversation that they had just came and picked it up as a courtesy. I had things that were in it that were going to the Goodwill, but nothing that was important.

I later received a notice in the mail that I owed over $12,000 on the vehicle. When I called to speak with someone about it, they were rude. The lady said, "You are a nobody and you will ALWAYS be a nobody!" She then hung up on me.

I called back and asked to speak with her supervisor. She told me that I was the only one that could handle the situation and then hung up on me again. They reported this to the credit bureau. I have disputed it by calling Mitsubishi and having them send me a copy of all the payments received. I compared it to mine and according to all the records, the payments were not behind.]

I guess anyone can report false information to the credit bureau and get away with it.
