In July 2009, I applied for refinance with MLD Mortgage. I submitted a recent home appraisal, which they said was acceptable.  I was told settlement would be in August 2009 and not to bother making my current August mortgage payment (due by the 16th of the month) with my other bank. On August 28th MLD contacted me and said I need to make my August mortgage pymt because they "didn't like the appraiser" I used and were ordering another appraisal with a different company, which I would not be charged for.  I made August pymt, plus the $55 late fee that I was charged.  In September the appraisal was done and once again I was told NOT to make Sept 2009 mortgage pymt because we would be settling by the end of the month.  I was also advised that I would get approximately $1,000 - $1,500 back at settlement because of the way they estimated payoff amounts.  On Sept 28th, I was contacted again and told TO MAKE the mortgage pymt because settlement was going to roll over into October 2009.   By this time, I'm very upset because I had to make my mortgage pymt late again and pay another $55 late fee.  Settlement was finally on October 1, 2009.  I didn't get $1,000 - $1,500 back at settlement....I got $76.  Huge difference huh?  The following day, I noticed that I was charged $450 for the appraisal that MLD ordered, plus $50 for the submission of the appraisal that I provided...go figure.  Who knows where that came from.  I immediately contacted my MLD Mortgage representative, who assured me that I would be refunded the money.  Today is October 27, 2009 and I have yet to receive a refund.  I get no responses to the emails that I send inquiring about the status of my refund and when I called several times to inquire, my MLD representative just says "it'll be coming". Not only did it take 3 months to settle the loan (which they said would take 21 days!) but I'm out $500 in bogus appraisal fees and $110 in late fees to my former mortgage company.  Take my experience into consideration and don't go with MLD Mortgage!  You'll be sorry you did.
