In June 2015, we replaced carpeting in a bedroom, hall and living room.  We have lived in the house many years, and this was the third carpet to be installed.  I had asked to see nylon carpeting when I visited the showroom, as I had had that before and was pleased with the performance.  The dealer (Carpets Unlimited in Owensboro Ky) did not want me to look at those options, but pushed Mohawk Smartstrand as the newest, virtually stainproof and warranted against wear.  There are no children or pets in my home, we do not wear street shoes inside, and I expected no problems.  First, the seams were highly visible after 3 attempts at correcting that, and the area where entry tile met the carpet (one step down into sunken living room) became very untwisted and frazzled.  The manufacturer sent an "independent " inspector who of course ruled that it was consumer related and warranties did not cover step installation.  I hired another inspector who was certified by a national carpet inspection group, and he reported to the installer that the steps  had been laid with the nap in the wrong direction (sideways rather than downward)and that the fiber of the carpet did not lend itself well to seaming.  He also stated that the product had obviously been "oversold".  The steps wer relaid and are wearing agin though not as badly.

I am very unhappy with this carpet--Mohawk Unity Smartstrand.  It has not worn as advertised, and although I have been able to remove any spots, this stuff is like a dirt magnet.  Spots seem to appear for no apparent reason--no spills or outside dirt tracked in as far as we can tell.  I never had this problem with my nylon carpet in the past.  The last was 15 years old, and looked as good as this Mohawk that is barely a year old.

I would not recommend this carpet.
