I was led to a fake Mcafee Security site after a fake problem message on my computer. I called the phone number, which I have now learned is not a Mcafee support number. They represented themselves as being from Mcaffee software security. I was shown that I had a computer virus and they said they could get rid of it for me. They said they had to get some information before continuing (phasing). They then quoted me $299 for the service. They pushed me hard to sign up right now so they could start "repairing".
They then wanted my email username and password. I asked for them to give me my Mcaffee case reference number. They avoided the question, I pressed them for the number. The number they gave me started with the persons first name, which is not a valid Mcaffee case reference number. I then hung up. I subsequently checked my computer myself by a number of means in addition to working with the REAL Mcafee, and found no viruses. Mcaffee couldn't validate the phone number of this fraudulant company.
