I have been in business for over 9 years now and have tried a large variety of advertising in that time. I consider a ROI of 7 times or more to be an exceptional way to market and a negative ROI to be a learned lesson. However, I have never had an advertisement investment be a total dud! This neighborhood publication has not produced a single call, not even someone asking questions! I'm baffled! Even the worst advertising I have done has gotten some feedback. I like to track how customers have heard about us and I have yet to have anyone say the publication. I'm at the year end of my contract and I will not be renewing, but I am tempted to go door to door with the publication in hand and ask those neighbors if they have ever seen this publication. I got in cheap with an 1/3 ad for $150 a month because I traded out in home computer services and our membership program with Greg, but that is still an overall loss of $2475 for the year without one single call. Supposedly the events were supposed to bring in the big bucks but it was just a bunch of the other businesses in the publication so we could just trade cards and give away gifts to each other. Sure, I made some business through the other businesses, but my target is that residential neighborhood. If I wanted to meet other businesses it would have been cheaper to join the BBB and the chamber of commerce combined. I have had better results from just putting out door to door flyers than this publication has had. My wife questions whether or not anyone actually even reads this publication or just throws it in the garbage. Greg claims its SOOO popular! I'm probably going to go door to door soon to find out and to at least get my money's worth out of that neighborhood. I'll do better doing it myself than relying on Greg to do it for me. Sorry Greg, I will not be wasting my time with you or your publication. I hope no one else ever wastes their time with this thing. Just hire a guy for $15 an hour to go door to door on your behalf for 10 hours a week. You will have an infinitely better result! Btw, I've included my full name because I don't live in fear. I want people to know the truth and know this is a legitimate complaint and issue. I'm in the business of helping others with their consumer electronics and I know what good support should look like. N2 needs to change or I convinced they will crash as hard as they have grown.

Did you ever get an update about whether or not residents read the publications? For us, we are confident that they do. The content in the publication is generated by the residents themselves, so we wouldn't even have a magazine if it wasn't for the residents. If you haven't yet gone door to door, we'd encourage you to at least flip through some copies of the magazine and take note of how many people are featured -- that should be even a small testament of how many people are participating in the publication.
Beyond that, we'd like to address your concerns that you didn't gain any business in the area. We're glad to hear that you track your business so you know how people found you -- that's really helpful. For us, though, what we aim to do is get your business recognized through word of mouth advertising. The publication works by putting you in front of the most powerful consumers in your area month after month over a period of time, which helps your business build trust in the community. This trusted, established brand in the community allows word of mouth advertising to take place, which is unfortunately very difficult to track.

My complaint wasn't regarding any Guarentees. Obviously N2 Guarentees that they cannot guarantee you anything in return of your investment. That is exactly why they try to rope businesses into 3 year contracts. I was at least smart enough to do a 1 year trial run in just one of their 3 publications in my area. A heads up to the N2 company. Advertising agency's that cannot provide a decent return on a business's investment will not continuing pouring money into your enterprise. Warning to investors, N2 is proud of their no guarentee policy. There are only so many bridge available to burn until the money train comes to a full stop. Good luck with your business. My business will still be around the next ten years and I will happily not be investing in any N2 advertising. Take that to the bank.
