Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We were desperate to locate the right drug rehab center for our 25yr old son when he told us he was ready.  Narconon gave us glowing reports of their success and made it very easy to finance the $29,000 stay.  They told us our son could return for a "tune up" and could stay as long as he needed to.  It sounded too good to be true.  We sent him from Oregon to the Watsonville facility.  He tried to leave and they convinced him to return.  They did not give him a physical exam and would not share any of the mental health evaluation with us even though my son granted us permission to review those documents.

My son connected up with one "counselor" but was moved to the Tahoe facility and we were not given any reason.  His counselor stayed at Watsonville.  When he did finally complete book 4 he was not allowed to go on the outings as promised because they cost more money (which we are not told about).  Family must send more money for all outings.  When he cleaned his room but his roommate did not he got punished and went to the ethics cycle.

He never was given any problem solving counseling instead he was told Narconon would cure him from the drug addiction.  Once he realized, and we realized Narconon was hooked into scientology we regretted our choice in drug rehab facilities.  Our son wanted to move ahead with the books but was told he could not until he was found a partner.  We asked for him to return to Watsonville where his counselor was.  Instead they allowed the counselor to go to Watsonville for a week to work with our son.  He made progress that week but they never found him a partner and consequently he was asked to leave.

They wanted to put him in a shelter somewhere in California but we paid for a bus ticket home.  They gave him no food on the day of his departure and left him at the bus depot without any funds.  They told us that he could return to Narconon after he completed 40 hours of community service for his ethics violations (which consisted of talking to others about the scientology connection).  They also promised us that they would call him every week to provide support to him.  They never called.

After several months, our son felt like he was in trouble with his sobriety and called Narconon.  His counselor had been let go and they promised to call him back which they never did.  Consequently my son relapsed.

A year later, my son agreed to go back into rehab but Narconon refused to let him back in as previously agreed.  We sent him to DePaul in Portland for a fraction of the cost of Narconon.  At DePaul he was put through an intensive 30 day program.  Upon release he completed 14 weeks of outpatient in our community.  He continues to attend a 12 Step program 4 to 5 days a week.  He has been clean and sober for nearly 7 months.

Don't waste your money on Narconon.  It is a scam and costs way too much!  I would be happy to talk to anyone about this.

I am so glad you repoorted this! Thank God your son got out of the Narconon program and, despite relapse, that you put him in a traditional program to such good result! You should know that he never had a personal counselor, as Narconon staff just tell loved ones that to get you to sign up. There is no counseling in the program. The only reason they sent to Tahoe the counselor that they claimed was his was to try and shut you up.

You should file a complaint with the Oregon state consumer affairs and the California Better Business Bureau ( asking for a partial refund) explaining what they did and what you had to do to really help your son in the end. You deserve a refund and your complaint deserves to be on record with the state of Oregon. I am certain they never told you over the phone about their refund policy and you only learned of it after your son was in the program. Perhaps they lied and told you it was not Scientology. Besides the promises of 1:1 counseling, these are typical lies told to vulnerable loved ones like yourself during the sales process over the phone. It's fraudulent and illegal.

Best wishes to you and your son!
