Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Ray Cousins from NAA/Fidelity and Guaranty Ins. went to my parents' (ages 68 and 74) home in Pensacola, Florida to discuss life insurance policies. When my parents did not agree with the details he provided on the policy and the necessity of the policy, he proceeded to tell my father "you're just selfish". He argued with my father instead of ending the meeting amicably. Furthermore, when he left their house, he asked my mother "how long have you been married?". This is a completely irrelevant and inappropriate question. After she answered, he then said again, "he's just selfish". My parents told me that he repeated "selfish" at least 3 to 4 times. Instead of diffusing the situation as a representative of his company or ending the meeting amicably, he proceeded to have a war of words with my father, ending in insults to both he and my mother.

Although he did not actually rip-off my parents - this just occurred yesterday, so I am not sure what personal information he may have about my parents and whether or not he will use it in the future - I am concerned that this conduct shows that he is potentially unethical in his business practices. Please be forewarned if you are a senior citizen living in the Gulf Coast area of Florida and Alabama or if you have a parent who lives in these areas. My brother, sister and I live in Virginia so we are not able to directly help them deal with unscrupulous people like Ray Cousins. Hopefully this report and a report filed at the BBB will Ray Cousins's business practices as well as the business practice of NAA which I also question after reading some of the reports on this site.

Ray Cousins' website says he is the District Manager and that his office is in Birmingham, AL. But the business card he gave my parents says the following:

Ray Cousins (Regional Manager)

National Agent Alliance

Educator Group Plans Insurance Services Inc

Thank you "Scorned NAA Rep" for your information. I emailed complaints to Old Mutual Financial Network (OMFN) and sent a report to Florida Department of Financial Services (FLDFS). I tried to look up Ray Cousins under the Insurance Agent Search but I don't have his license number and it was not on the business card that he gave to my parents. I also looked up National Agents Alliance (NAA) Fidelity and Guaranty and OMFN but there was no record found on either company. The FLDFS Company Directory is supposed to have "information on companies doing business in the State of Florida" so since NAA and OMFN were not listed I also reported them to FLDFS to verify that they are authorized to do business in Florida. I think a lot of people, including myself, don't quite understand the insurance industry, how it works, and the fact that they are supposed to be following certain rules and regulations. I appreciate you taking the time to give me these helpful resources . . . I was beginning to think all insurance agents are shady and not to be trusted, but now I see that there are some good ones out there.

I feel sorry for you and your parents for having to go through this. Unfortunately, the pressure exacerbated by NAA corporate on their reps and agency managers too often results in complaints such as yours. I only wish more people would post complaints like you have encountered. I would recommend the following: Complain to NAA Corporate by calling 336.227.3319. I suspect you will not get far, but Andy Albright is the CEO and you can ask to leave him a voicemail or email him at [email protected]. Call the Florida Department of Financial Services and register a complaint. Their phone number is 877-693-5236 or 850-413-3137. You can also check the status of this agent by going to www.fldfs.com and click on "check out your insurance agent". The phone number for OMFN (formerly known as Fidelity and Guarantee Life Insurance Company) is 888-513-8797. While you may be able to register a complaint with them, I don't think you will get far. Best bet is to deal with the state. As a licensed insurance rep holding resident and non-resident insurance licenses in multiple states, I am appalled that someone from my profession would conduct themselves in such a way. Good luck to you on this!
