It usually does no good at all to talk with them. You should read the FCRA and the FDCPA and then send them a certified, return requested letter to DISPUTE and demand validation of this alleged debt. Read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm. If you're interested in obtaining free credit reports or correcting your credit report, read the Fair Credit Reporting Act at ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcradoc.pdf You can obtain your free annual credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com It's too late now, but in the future if something unexpected pops up on your credit report when you're APPLYING for credit, you should NOT proceed with the credit application until you convince yourself that the credit report is accurate. You should have declined the auto deal until your credit reports were corrected so that you could have obtained the loan at a better interest rate. Good luck in the future.
