I do hope you win. But let's clarify something. They do not have to travel to Ohio to defend the suit you filed, or to countersue you. All they need do is HIRE an attorney who is licensed to practice law in Ohio. Will they do it??? I don't know. But THEY CAN. Further, they can up the ante on you by filing a countersuit in a HIGHER court that will allow for legal fees should they prevail. Just because the amount in question is low enough for adjudication by small claims doesn't mean that they HAVE to use small claims. They are free to hire an attorney and sue you in a higher Ohio court. It's a dangerous game to play-sorta like poker, or chicken-who's gonna blink first. I hope you prevail, just be aware that it can become risky and EXPENSIVE very quickly if they countersue and move the case to a higher court. Good luck.
