I opened a Nevada Federal Credit Union "bank" account in June of 2009. Everything was fine for a month, until, without notice, their $15 "charge" occurs for me to "pay" for the checks. At no point in any of the documentation nor prior notice was I told to retain $15 for the checks. Under that assumption, those checks are free, like all the other banks do for at least the first book. I didn't even receive a set of checks when the account was opened. To top that off, they moved money from my "savings" account into my "checking" account and then charged me $10 to do so. I told them to give my money back and they refused, making up a rule that isn't in their little book and giving me every reason under the sun why they can't. So I paid $25 for these checks? I could've ordered a hell of a lot more checks from a private check publisher for $25 than what they gave me.
Also, they punished us for the actions of somebody else.
You see, I made a deposit of around $520 the same day this they decided to IMMEDIATELY FINALIZE the check "purchase" instead of waiting the next business day (as stated in their little handbook). Then, upon knowing that the money is deposited anyways, they ought to cash any checks that were written and let my balance fall into the negative until they finalize the CASH DEPOSIT that I made. That's the way a BANK does it! Also, they give me this bullwater line about take 48 hours for the deposit to clear. Really? That SLOW?! So what do they do? Well, they didn't cash the checks that were written after giving me an extremely rude phone call and telling me I'm wrong, when I didn't even know the person in question even had the checks by then. I then tell them not to cash the checks. Yet they GO AHEAD AND GIVE ME AN OVERDRAWN FEE!! When the check wasn't cashed? Oh, that's their "policy" that WASN'T WRITTEN IN THEIR LITTLE BOOK!
Also, their policy is bunk.
Example: A box of checks is stolen from me. I'm unaware of the theft and think nothing of it. A person goes into one of their branches to cash the checks that were stolen. I don't have the funds. Then I'm hit with $35 per check as an "overdrawn fee" and punished, even though I know nothing of the theft and crime that has happened.
Their response to this exact scenario: Oh, we'd know.
Really? How? How would you know the difference? YOU DON'T UNTIL I FILE THE POLICE REPORT AND DISPUTE THE TRANSACTIONS!
But this is the flawed logic used in the this so-called "bank".
So, I told them, flat-out: "YOU'RE F***ING ME!" And that's the truth. That's what it's called when you STEAL MONEY FROM A MEMBER without a true, logical reason.
To top it off, and this policy isn't written anywhere believe it or not, I had to call a Las Vegas branch manager to get this resolved, who saw it my way.
The problem with the branch in Pahrump is the entire branch is ran by white, middle-aged, Desperate Housewives-watching, Obama-voting, overweightm, Mormon women! They function this entire branch on estrogen and emotions, and without reason, rationale, common sense, or logic.
Yet the Las Vegas branch manager, who never met me because I don't live in Las Vegas, listened to me and gave me my money back and fixed my problems based on my concerns of being "f***ed" (sorry, there's no other word in American English to describe that) and wants to keep me as a customer of their "bank."
The solutions to this is make sure the branch is managed by a college-educated man with at least five years of banking experience, and that the Nevada Federal Credit Union needs to sit down and take a look at other banks and how to satisfy their members at their members utmost convenience in the modern electronic world.
