On 11/17/2002 I established service with Nevada Telephone requesting a "non-published" phone number for personal safety/security reasons. Nevada Telphone said they could provide that service for me at a cost of $2.50/month.

In April of 2003, I had a friend who was in town contact me. They said they had gotten my phone number from information. This deeply concerned me and I contacted Nevada Telephone to ensure that my number was "non-published". They insisted it was and that there was no way my number could be published.

I asked them to please look into it further and requested that if it had been published by mistake that I would like it to be "non-published". They said that it was "non-published" and I continued paying my $2.50/month.

On 12/20/2003 I had concerns that brought me to a reverse phone number lookup site. I entered my number and to my horror, my name, address, and a map to my house were all there. I went to another reverse phone number lookup site and discovered the same thing there.

I then called information and requested my phone number and was horrified to be given it. For a little over one year, Nevada Telephone has been committing fraud with at least one customer. I wonder how many other customers are paying for this service and only to have all of their personal information thrown onto the internet.

My personal safety and protection has been the largest cost to me. There were personal reasons for my requesting a "non-published" number and Nevada Telephone has violated my trust in the "non-published" number system.

I will be filing reports with the Public Utilities Commission, the State Attorney General, and the Better Business Bureau on this. Also, I am going to be contacting the local television and newspaper services so that they can inform the many Nevada Telephone "non-published" customers to check their phone numbers.

I will need proper compensation and immediate rectification. I'm not certain what can be done to correct the information that is already out there, but if it will end up costing me anything, I will require Nevada Telephone to absorb those costs. Also, I will need a refund of the money they have fraudulently taken from me for over a year, plus interest.
