On 4/9/18, a Star Ledger rep at a table in my supermarket (Seabra's in Union, NJ) said I could get grocery discount coupons and a $20 refund on my groceries but did not state I was buying a newspaper subscription. He said there would be no recurring charge, but that I should give him my debit card to initiate the discount at the cash register that day. Six months later I noticed that I had been charged $13.35 per month on my debit card. I phoned the Star Ledger and they said I had subscribed to their newspaper and that it was too late to claim non-delivery. From what I read on BBB, others also got tricked by this Star Ledger scam: no paper delivery, just a non-refundable recurring charge. Three different Star Ledger reps just told me I was out of luck because non-delivery was my responsibility but they misrepresented the grocery discount offer from the very beginning. A very clever scam!
