Newins Bay Shore Ford Negligent Used Car Salesman Bay Shore New York
Okay, want to keep this short but just want to talk about how bad an experience I had with Newins Bay Shore Ford...
Bought a used car there a couple months ago. After signing papers and driving away the 'Check Engin Light' (CEL) came on. Seriously, I wasn't on the road for 10 minutes before it popped on.
Called salesman (SM) and left message.
Few days later (without hearing back from salesman or anyone else) I contact them and ask what to do...finally just take it to local dealer and get problem diagnosed and fixed. Ended up that the dealer (presumably) changed the oil and over-filled the engine and didn't change the oil filter. Simple fix though it did cost $150 for diagnosis and repairs.
I bought the car in NY but live in CT. My gut told me it would be a pain to deal with transfer of plates, registration and all but SM told me it would be fine and they take care of everything. Told me I should have new plate and registration in 2-3 weeks (got temporary permit for time being).
3 weeks later I call to check on everything. Leave two messages and send two emails over 4 days and get no response from SM. Finally call and talk to finance mgr (FM) who says that the app was denied. FM says sorry that no one told me about it but he let me know what went wrong and I sent in appropriate paperwork next day.
FM said it would take 7-10 days before plates were done. So, 7 days later I call to check status and leave message. On 8th day I called and got through to FM and he was surprised that the SM hadn't called because the app was denied again! FM said this never happens.
Extremely upset because the exact same thing happened and nobody cared enough to tell me about it. So, I ask for 3rd party company that handles registration/plates/etc. and work with them directly to cut out dealership.
Keep in mind, I paid extra to have this 3rd party company do everything for me and it ended up taking 45 days before I finally had new plates.
Doesn't seem that bad I'm sure but keep in mind that my temporary plates expired after 30 days so I couldn't legally drive my car for 15 days right after I got it.
Ended up sending the owner of the dealership an email outlining my experience. I asked for a refund of money that I paid to have 3rd party co. take care of registration plus money for fixing the car. Honestly, all I wanted was an apology and I wouldn't be here today.
Didn't get any response from the email so I filed a complaint with the BBB.
Finally, Newins Bayshore responds to the BBB complaint but completely lies and mis-states what happened. They basically lied to make it look like they did everything they could to help me (completely untrue) and I was the one that didn't care about the timeliness of everything!
So, I sent another email to the owner (also the one that replied to the BBB complaint) and expressed my disgust about the dealership and how they responded to the BBB complaint. Again, just stated all I ever wanted was an apology or admission of guilt. I guess it wouldn't surprise you that I never got a response from him, right?
Basically, Newins Bayshore is a typical used car dealership. They'll do anything they can to get you to sign on the line and then move on to the next sucker.
