Next Model Agency ripoff fraudulent billing withheld day rates until lawsuit was filled helped themselves to 80% of my earnings Los Angeles California
I was represented by Next model agency for 7 months. My average day rate was $500 of which I was lucky if I received $100. Whenever I complained that I had not been paid, my booker Tracy would refer me to the New York office.
I called the NY office constantly as I was determined to get my check. None of my calls were ever returned, and whenever I did receive a check the amount was a fraction of what they owed. It would also have amounts added and then subtracted [really unprofesionally] just to confuse me.
After living hand to mouth for 7 months, unable to pay my rent and bills [even though I was working almost every day] I decided to leave the company and file a small claim for the amount that they owed.
Only then did I recieve a phone call from the NY office asking me to drop the case and then they would pay me my money. The woman was very appologetic, saying this is the first I have heard of your complaints, it's just a mis-comunication etc etc.
Nievely I dropped the case and 1 week later I received a check for way less than they owed. To make up the numbers they had added charges for faxes,new cards [never recieved] couriers and phone calls. I had never been charged for phone calls and faxes made by an agent on my behalf before, thats what the commission covers. To top it off Tracy claimed that she didn't have my book. If they never had my book how did I incur courier charges?
My book finally showed up 6 months later when I received a call from a production office where it had been dropped off by Next and never picked up.
This agency preys on young nieve girls. They don't expect them to do their own accounting, and when they querey the pay check they make out there is an issue with the way the model works and asks her to leave [This has happened to other girls I have worked with]. They have filled chapter 1 numerous times and hide behind a wall of criminal accountants.
