This is the way they work, and you can read many reports about them.

  • They buy Google Advertising listing products for prices 25% lower than anywhere else.
  • Their website lists those products with some keywords like "ASIA MODEL" or "14 MILLION COLORS".
  • Consumer purchases the product.
  • Their credit card gets a "pending" charge.
  • Wait ??? days.
  • Customer calls them to figure out what is going on. They explain that they were about to cancel your order because it's out of stock. Plus, you wouldn't want it anyway. That's the "business" model with less colors, and it's low quality. You want the "Consumer" model, made in Mexico.

So they sell you something different, at essentially retail while you're still on the phone.

Remember, they have your credit card information, so you don't have to give them any information.

Now, one of two things happens:

  1. You wait, and get the product at some time in the future. It's probably going to be kind of slow.
  2. You research, find out that you got ripped off, and could have gotten the same or better deal at Best Buy today.

In the event of #2, then these events happen:

  1. You call back and ask to cancel your order. They hem and haw. They don't want to do it. They offer you $150 off to save credit card processing fees, and make no money on the sale. They offer to do anything to make you happy. They will eventually cancel your order, but this is a guilt-ridden hassle.
  2. They talked you out of it, with a discount or tracking number or "truck coming in 10 minutes".
  3. You find out that the promises of #2 don't happen. So you call to cancel again. Repeat #1.
  4. You finally cancel your order.
  5. You write a review on a site that provides the order number of a complaint to the merchant (resellerratings.com).
  6. You get panicked texts from whoever you dealt with begging for help keeping their job. They'll offer to pay for a TV out of their pocket. My salesman called me 4-5 times in a row, and texted me 25 times desperately, just to change my rating. Even that was a bait and switch.

Once I called their bluff on that offer, and it did't come through, the phone calls and texts stopped.

I hated this whole experience. I was tricked. I was manipulated.
