There is something very suspicious about this collection agency. I signed up for a trial of US Weekly Magazine last August. I recieved the free issues and decided to continue the subscription so I mailed in the first of 4 payments. I recieved 6 more issues and then stopped recieving the magazine so I ignored the next bill that came. Then in January I recieved a letter from the North Shore Agency telling me I owed $67 due now or further action would take place. I have recieved the same letter every other month since January and I have ignored them because it can't possibly be legal for them to collect a "debt" that is owed for magazines I have not recieved, since evidently my subscription was cancelled within weeks of my first payment. I did some research on this company and someone in Florida has filed a class action suit against them for trying to collect non-existant debts. I'm just wondering, does anyone know if I do legally owe this debt? I know they don't have my SS# and most likely this won't end up on my credit report, but if I do infact owe the money, I am more than willing to pay! I just don't think I should have to pay for the remainder of a subscription that was cancelled right after I made the 1st payment. If I had recieved more issues than I paid for, then I would think I would only owe for those issues.

I had gotten a supposed "collection" notices from them too for some magazine I never subscribed to, and had never even heard of. They sent me a collection notice, I ignored it... They are more of an in house collection dept and they do not report to any of the 3 major credit bureaus. After about a year they stopped sending me notices.

I finally reached Prevention magazine at their 800 number 1-800-813-8070. I explained the problem to a very pleasant customer rep and he fixed the problem in short order. It takes a lot of waiting time to get to a rep but it was worth the wait. The balance was reduced to ZERO and they will have North Shore agency take me off their list.
