To simply put it, Nutrisystem hates their employees. Even more so in the call centers.

First off the pay is garbage for someone with a Masters Degree and the shear amount of pressure and improbable expectations they require, lest they fire you.

The main issue is the CEO and the executive branch received a massive bonus yet the company is financially in dire straights. They even went $5.0 MM over budget to get Janet Jackson as the new spokesperson and her ads aren't making as much of a difference.

All the while, the employees get an email detailing how there will be no pay increases (even cost of living), cuts to vacations and no bonuses this year. Yet our expectations for our "ratings" go up 20% and we are submitted to weekly reviews. If our ratings are too low or our "aux time" is too high we get put on a "Personal Improvement Plan" (PIP) which is basically probation right before they fire you. When they raised the ratings, 92% of the employees went on PIPs. They actually lowered them for a bit ad just raised them again. Especially for the aux time.

However, that aux time is needed to do your job! You need to write tons of notes, especially in counseling. If you go to the bathroom? aux time. Need to blow your nose? aux time. You have a registered injury with ADA documentation where you need to get up at least once an hour to move around for a minute? aux time.

What about "Events"? Late to work past 15 minutes? That's an event or partial event. (they do halves and quarters). Go into labor while in the office? Oh yeah, that's an event. Have to be rushed to an emergency room for having a stroke? That's two events!

Too many events and oh yeah, they fire you.

What about "supervisors" that not only don't have training or experience being an actual supervisor, but they don't even know how to use the phone and employee systems correctly. Not to mention having the IQ of drift wood with a Traumatic Brain Injury. Yet they are your supervisor when you have 90 IQ points and two degrees above them.

How about bomb threats at work. Oh yeah, we've had two so far. The one time, they didn't even evacuate the building! The second time, we sat outside in the freezing cold for almost 6 hours.

And you wonder why out of just the call center employees we have had 2 strokes, a heart attack and a suicide - in just this past year. You might think it's because of the financial situation. Nope, they were actually worse when they were making money hand over fist.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

Tue, January 31, 2012

As an ex employee of Nutrisytem, I have to say everything that has said about the company is 100% correct. I worked for Nutrisystem for 3 yrs and it was the worst 3 yrs of my working life, I have never worked for a company that doesn't value their employees nor show empathy towards their employees not one iota. The policy that are implemented are the worst, I remember there were times when calls would be holding in queue and they would take our breaks away...Yes no breaks at all only a 1/2 an hr lunch...there wasn't much about the company that I enjoyed except for co-workers that I became friends with..We had a snow storm last yr and they never thought to close the call center as the storm progressed, so some people had to stay on the phones until they decided to close the call center which they did at 9:30 pm which was during the blunt of the storm. That actually put lives in danger driving home...you could not see the road in front of you driving it was a complete white out. The storm was so bad public transportation as shut down in the city of Philadelphia and surrounding counties for days. Some of the employees were unable to report to work the next because no buses were running.. But the last straw for me was when people that were scheduled to work the day shift and didn't come to work do to the 15 inches of snow we received their absence was excused but, if you worked the night shift and didn't show up that absence was not excused...I'm sorry 15 inches of snow was not nor did not disappear in 5 hrs if the buses weren't in the morning they were running in the evening. When that was bought up to managements attention  that the buses weren't running what was told to the employees that didn't show up for their shifts after 1:00pm was " You have to get to work the best way you know how, and the absence will not be excused".....That was a total slap in the face to those that rely on public transportation, and that was the last straw for me. I would never recommend anyone to work at that company I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
