Recently seen Office Depot started doing same day pickups in store only for select items. Office Depot workmanship have always been great so I picked them over the competitors. I ordered two photo books and one canvas print that were specifically same day pickup items. These same day pickup items stated it can be done in one hour or sometimes up to three hours due to production time. I made sure all my items were same day pickup items I could pick up on Christmas Eve so I could give my parents great Christmas gifts.

I spend over four hours just uploading high resolution pictures from our wedding due to the large file sizes. After the uploading process, I had to customize the photo books in a chronologically order of my wedding events. Spent about another two hours customizing everything in Office Depot under Lifepics. Did all of this work on Monday night 12/23/2013 so everything could be ready on Christmas Eve just in time for Christmas. I ordered the pickup at Office Depot on Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge, LA. One of the Print & Copy associates, Nick, emailed me stating he was going to finish the work but had to get portrait photo books from another store. After several hours still didn’t get an email or call about my products.

I emailed Nick several times but he didn’t respond. Called the store and they said they couldn’t find my order. Called back again and the story changed because apparently Nick didn’t tell no one about the same day pickup and never even tried to finish my same day pickup items. One female associate in copy and print said he tried to do the canvas but stopped because the paper was getting stuck. But he didn’t even attempt to do the photo books so I could have it for Christmas. Talked to the store manager and she said it wasn’t anything she could do and I couldn’t receive my same day pickup items today. So I’m all out of luck with no Christmas presents when Office Depot clearly stated these items were same day pickup items.

That’s false advertisement on Office Depot for guaranteeing specific items the same day and not fulfilling their guarantee. I trusted Office Depot with my Christmas surprises for my parents and they broke my trust and lost faith in the company policies and guarantees. Nick unprofessionalism and lack of work ethic is humiliating to the company but shouldn’t the copy and print associate who came in on another shift have taken care of the order number instead of making excuses blaming the morning shift. The entire same day pickup guarantee is fraud to me and false advertisement. This kind of behavior and antics is unacceptable and unprofessional on the behalf of Office Depot.

Office Depot gave you a Christmas present: You can use them as your scapegoat for waiting until 30-hours before Christmas to get your act together.

Who will be your whipping boy next year?

I worked in the corporate world for many years and I can tell you that there times when equipment just plain breaks.  Companies cannot not afford to have duplicate back up machines for every machine they have. A broken machine is indeed a valid reason for not meeting a deadline, most everyone knows that.

Several things including you not getting the material on time just piled up and caused a problem.

It certainly does not warrant having a tantrum over it and reporting them on the internet.

I can tell you for certain that if my children were preparing this for me, I would be completely happy if they just stated my present was delayed due to unforseen circumstances and would be a few day late.

I actually received my photos from my photography 3 days ago after calling them constantly so I didn't have the pleasure of spending more time on my photo books. I'm not a last minute person at all but I didn't have any other choice in this event. Office Depot also have 3 other locations in Baton Rouge that is 5-20 miles away so the traveling 200 miles argument is invalid. If the associate tells me they're going to get the books from another store nearby, I expect them to honor their promise. Ordered a few same day pickup products from Walmart and received them within hours. The quality was subpar but at least they fulfilled their same day guarantee.

Office Depot is suppose to be a professional printing company so paper jamming is not a valid excuse to not fulfill a customer same day order. I quite sure they have many deadlines for businesses and presentations so telling their clients they didn't fulfill the order because the paper was jamming is unprofessional. Office Depot decided to promise same day pickup items not me. The company has been promoting this service on social websites so when I order a same day item, I expect to receive it the same day. Many people might not have received their same day items the same day and just waited a few more days, but if a local store is not living up to corporate core principles then I make it my business to make corporate aware of their business practices.

Office Depot didn't ruin my Christmas at all because it's all about spending time with family. Wanted to give my family photo books and a canvas but life happens and I'll have to wait another day. Usually order from Shutterfly because of their superb quality but was time pressed and trusted Office Depot same day pickup service. NEVER AGAIN will I make this mistake again of trusting their same day pickup promise.

What a Drama King/Queen we are..

Let me start by saying if this book was such an important item why did you wait until 1 1/2 days before Christmas to even start the book?  You spent ONLY 6 hours to get this book together.  Well you mean you couldn't come up with 6 hours in the last couple of weeks?  Even an hour or two a night for a few nights?  Somehow I bet you could have.  Oh and why did I say ONLY 6 hours?  Well in addition to getting time before, let's just say that my Significant Other has done a few books and spent at least double(and sometimes tripple) that amount of time on books they have done to get them absoutly perfect.

Now of course you are upset because due to a combination of your procrastination and equipment/supply issues they couldn't get it done in a day.  I guess in your mind in order to get the canvas print done the clerk at the store should have become a repair technician and figured out why it was jamming.  Or perhaps they should have called a technician in and even if it was found to need a part that they needed to get the part regardless of where it was.   I guess for the book since this store was out of supplies they needed to require the vendor to personally deliver it that same day.  After all the employee said he had to get them from another store?  Well what if it took him several tries to find a store 200 miles away?  I guess you would expect them to go drive and pick it up.

Look the point is that things happen and there are points where you can not expect people to go beyond.  Now, of course I expect you to say that YOU would drive 500 miles or out of your own pocket call a repair technician and stay until 3am in the morning if it was you.  Well great for you, when you open up your own store I hope you post your address and this commitment.

Of course I am also sure you are going to tell your parents how horrible Office Depot is and how they and they alone ruined your Christmas.  I just wonder if you are going to tell them that you didn't even start their gift until the night of the 23rd?

Who knows perhaps they will understand and be just as apprciative of the effort and be very happy when they finally get it.
