I am an assistant manager at an OfficeMax location and I have worked for the company for 3 years. Many of the consumers do not work in retail and do not understand how things work. Pretty much every retailer that offers rebates has the "fine print" that you must read. Think about when you purchase a new software program, or sign up for a cell phone service. They have a certain set of guidelines and "fine print" you are asked to read. 75% or more do not read it and just hit okay. The problem in the majority of these instances is that Consumers DO NOT read. No offense, but again, 75% of the customers that come in with a rebate that was denied did not read what they were supposed to do, and then they blame the company for it. Also, as said previously in other rebuttles, the majority of OfficeMax rebates deal with seperate rebate companies. At this time those rebate companies are Parago and EZ rebates. So before you go into your local OfficeMax store and throw a fit of rage at people who are not to blame, make sure that it is the store's fault. I am sure that if you are not rude, and explain that you did everything correctly, that store will do everything possible to help you. People do not like to help rude individuals, no matter what the situation is. I know in my store I resolve all matters of rebates instantly when the customer brings their information into the store. Either I call our rebate support line, or I take money out of the store to give to the customer. But it makes it very hard to want to take this time and effort to help someone with something that is not my fault, when this customer is beyond rude. On another note, we have improved our rebate process drastically from my personal experience with other retailers, I would have to say that OfficeMax offers Great Customer service. If the associates are rude to you, blame that store, not the whole company, because there are many different types of people in this world and I know that OfficeMax focuses on the "perfect customer experience"

Paul, I am a front end seller at my local Office Max, at Springhurst Shopping Center, and i and my co-workers deal with the problem your talking about now. This past year Office Max has merged with Boise and many, many things have improved including out rebate systems. we no longer have you mess with a rebate booklet, we now print off a seperate mail-in rebate reciept for you which has step by step directions. I know exactly what you going throw b/c i have too. But what you must relieze that the company is trying to make changes to improve our stores.

I have used successfully many Office Max rebates. The little book is confusing but you can print easier to read rebate forms online. The Office Max I shop at highlights and points out which rebate forms you need to fill out. If you go to their website you can find the rebate section and fill them out online and then send in verification it makes it much easier. I am a frequent Office Max shopper

Officemax is trying to make things easier for the consumer, rather than complicate things further. Instead of having hundreds of extra paperwork and additional rebate supplements to follow and lose, officemax created a nicely organized rebate book with all the manufacturer and officemax rebates contained within. In addition to the INDEX in the rebate book, officemax also provides a larger 1 page index for all the popular rebate items, showing exactly what page to use for what rebate item. The only thing that could make things easier would be someone taking you by your hand and showing you exactly where the correct rebate form is. In addition to the easy to locate rebates, on the rebate form itself, there are DESCRIPTIONS, SKU's and UPC's that are acceptable for the item. If it doesn't match, it's not the right one, and keep looking. Last time I tried it, reading wasn't that hard. It's very common for calls to occur where the customer simply overlooked the rebate form. If you have any doubt before you send in the rebate, you should check with the officemax first to make sure it's the correct one. Also, always make copies of what you send in for the rebates. In MOST cases, officemax will settle the rebate dispute (provided you prove that you're not a total idiot). Also, it doesn't hurt to come in with a nice clean attitude. It will get you farther. A rude and obnoxious consumer will usually frustrate things further, and make it harder to help.
