Recently had a rebate denied as they said UPC not sent. I have the box that the UPC was cut out. I sent the original UPC on cardboard and they say they did not receive it. This is not the first ripoff. They have a history of not paying rebates and what does it take for the company to cease this practice. I don't appreciate being ripoffed by companies as large as OfficeMax as a matter of policy. I am furious and want to know is there anything being done, or how to proceed with stopping the company from this more than aggravating practice. Please help.

I agree with Mark & Kevin. I've worked for OMX for several years and as management, have to deal with rebate issues a lot. In all honesty, most of the time it's the consumer's fault. I don't say this to make anyone angry, but it's the truth. You are instructed to keep a copy of everything you send them. Send everything in seperate envelopes. Everything. Register the rebates online for tracking purposes (but you still have to send in the paperwork) at maxmyrebates.com. If you keep a copy of everything and for some reason get a rejection notice, we at the store level have 2 speedy phone #'s we can call to force payment for you. We cannot do this without your proof of sending things in; that is why we need a copy. We will also need the rejection post card. It has a tracking number. NEVER will the rebate house tell a manager at the store level that they will not pay out on a rebate. You must go the extra step on this if you are going to buy things with rebates. Also, you must treat the managers with dignity and respect, be patient (we are usually handling multiple customers) and be willing to wait around if we need to make a phone call. We can only call on rebates monday thru friday from 9-4 p.m. so keep that in mind.

OfficeMax does have good intentions

I have worked for OfficeMax for a long time and they do have good intentions. As far as rebates, yes I hate them, but they are not going away. I personally deal with rebate issues everyday at OfficeMax. Yes there are times when the rebate companies take a long time, and yes they do make errors probably more than they should. Me personally? Ive done a few of our rebates and havent had any problems at all. If you have a problem with an OfficeMax rebate, simply bring it in to a member of their management. Nicely explain the situation, and if they are doing their job correctly, they can make a phone call and have your rebate validated in 5 minutes. If you have a complaint, log on to the website and submit your feedback. Regardless of what you think, they DO read them, and they WILL respond. Sometimes we make an error and we get emails from our corporate office instructing us to make this customer happy. I will admit that they have had some problems in the past, but they do care.

Tips to not get ripped off

#4Consumer Suggestion

First, Make a copy of everything you send in, I know this sounds obvious. This is your proof you sent everything in. If you need office max has self serve copiers in the store, and it only cost $0.07 a copy. You can use this to get you check if it never comes in the mail, but wait a little, because it can take up to 10 weeks for it to come in the mail. If you happen to get a notice in the mail saying that your rebate was no good, take it to the store where you bought the item, they have power to take care of it. In the store I bought some rebate items from, they worked to get the check sent to me, and when they can't they give store credit. And by the way since Office Max was recently bought out by Boise Cascade, thus rebates may be ending soon, this is from an employee of Office Max I know.
