I lived at Old Buckingham Station Apartment complex, owned by General Service Corporation for exactly one year.  I was required to pay a large desposit and did so, prior to moving in.

Not only was the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartement less than desireable, the staff and maintenance crew had to be the most uncaring individuals I have ever done business with.  The list goes on and on, but the events of the past 3 weeks have me consulting an attorney.

Exactly 3 weeks after having moved out of the apartment, I began calling to inquire about when I might expect my deposit returned.  I was given several reasons as to why this had not happened, namely the final maintenance inspection had not been completed.  After several more days of waiting and several more unreturned phone calls, I was contacted by the property manager, informing me that not only was I not going to receive my $850.00 deposit, but that the carpet in the apartment needed to be replaced, at a cost of $1,922.00.

I made an appointment to meet with the property manager, and view some picutures they had taken.  I informed her that I wanted to also see the apartment.  She was insistant that this would not be possible, as once the apartment was turned over to the contracting team, entry could not be made by anyone.

I showed up at our appointed time, and she had left the office for the day?  I informed them again, that on the advice of my attorney, I wanted entry to the apartment to take photos of my own.  I was informed again that this would not be possible, because all the work had been done already and the apartment had been rented and was occupied.

This apartment, as I stated above, was  2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms with less than 1000sq. ft. of space.  How in the world could, standard, builder's grade carpet cost this amount of money?

After some online investigating, I found that this is common practice for this particular apartment complex.  There have been several other victims, and most likely will be to come.

Yes, I have had to hire an attorney.  More than likely most have not, because of the cost involved, but if they are not exposed for these exhorbatant costs, and down right criminal acts, they will continue to be able to bilk consumers for years to come.  I doubt seriously this place has paid for new carpet in any of their units in years.

My next stop is the Better Business Bureau!
