Olshan Foundation Repair Co. Installed 10 piers which would not correct anything and did it in a comletely shoddy manner and in violation of county building code Atlanta, Georgia
On 3/13/06 I contracted with Olshan for $6500 to install 10 piers in the crawl space and level the floors inside the house to correct and prevent further cracking of the walls and closing of doors. The salesman talked only of a lifetime warranty and, since I didn't read the agreement before signing, did not realize the warranty was good for only one year.
When the men came to do the work, they installed the 10 piers and were ready to leave when I told them they still needed to level the floors inside. They did not know that they were supposed to do that. After making several calls, a few additional men came and they worked long and hard at leveling the floors. Knowing nothing about what was required to correct the problem I thought the work was complete. I even wrote the office a nice letter of appreciation.
Almost immediately, we heard strange noises coming from the crawlspace but had no idea what it was. About 15 months later I called Olshan and asked if they could come correct the problem and find out about the strange sounds. They said they would come out but, since the one year warrantee was up, any work would cost $75 per pier, per agreement. They came out and said all 10 piers had failed and needed to be corrected. I decided not to have them do the work since none of the initial work corrected the problem.
I have been looking for another reputable company to correct Olshan's work since then and just found 3 companies: AquaGuard Basement Systems out of Marietta, GA, Craigs Remodeling and Repair of Watkinsville, GA, and our son's pastor who was a home builder for many years and still does a few jobs on the side. All three contractors said the work performed by Olshan was totally shoddy, would never correct the problem, was not in compliance with county code, which I have since verified, and needed to be removed before the problem could be corrected properly. The estimates were from $5000 to $19000.
I have called the Knoxville office thinking it was Olshan's home office but they simply called the Atlanta office who called me to find out what my problem was. I told them and they let me know that they had been combined with the Birmingham office and would get back to me. They have never called again. I called the Texas home office and the man in charge of problems such as mine said to email him the pictures taken showing the shoddy work and he would call me right back with an honest opinion as to what could be done. He never has returned my call so I emailed him again in June and have never had a response. That tells me no one at Olshan at any level cares that their local offices are doing a shoddy job, making false claims as to warranty, and hoping the inocent public never hears about it. That is the reason for this complaint being filed. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB.
