With the economy in such a sad state of affairs and Americans barely hanging on I am saddened to see that my insurance plan is ripping me off!

Fueled I'm sure by the Pharmaceutical dollars that also stand to gain by keeping the current plan in place. I take Topomax a migraine medication that is considered "non formulary". As such I have paid $50 for it for a very long time. About 6 months ago a generic was released. Guess what price I pay for the generic? (Topiramate)

$50 Makes no sense right? I decided to call Pacificare to ask why? And they first placed me on hold for a long while, then came back with the response of: In the event it proved to have any sort of "issues at some future date". Would they really have released it if that were the case? That explanation doesn't make any sense to me. Why release it if it's "iffy?"

At the end of the day, it doesn't make any difference though. It is David Vs Goliath and I have to pay if I on't want to have headaches. Just as many employers are looking to cut costs with the churning trend in the bad economy and no one is policing them, so are these coverage plans and their management making policies at will that affect those of us that are already struggling to make ends meet. Don't get me wrong i'm grateful to have insurance when so many others are without. I just wish there were more controls in place to protect the consumer and keep us from getting the shaft.
