I feel lucky that I terminated my contract with PageFree Publishing dba RKD Press after only 4 months. It became obvious that Kim Blagg was completely incompetant, lied profusely and had no intention of following through on the terms of our contract.

In am part of a group of 22 who have had similar experiences with PageFree Publishing where services were not rendered that were paid for.

In 2005 I contracted with them to format, edit, print and market my book, Amazing Dairy-free Desserts. I was told by the owner, Kim Blagg, that the formatting that I wanted, and which was part of the contract, could be created by her, that the formatting would take 3-4 weeks and that that pre-press information would be out in September 05 and that the book would be out by at least November 2005. I paid them a total of $3649 for services which included their basic book package (custom design, proofs, isbn, bar code , library of congress number, 10 copies of my book, and one year distribution through Ingram), book returnability (after-sale), and index, press release, inclusion in Books for Review, trade distribution and targeted marketing.

After working with Kim Blagg for 4 months, it became painfully obvious that she could not do the most simple formatting, no less a complicated cookbook. Along the way, she lied, procrastinated, sent along sloppy work, used the wrong file twice and was completely incompetant. Thinking that this was incompetance and not fraud ( since writing to the other 22 people, I have found that this was her modus operandi) I terminated the contract, requesting that she return $2575 to me. I was willing to pay her for the formatting work, even though she had not lived up to her part of the contract, but knowing that I would not be able to go to Michigan to sue her. She refused. In addition to losing the $3650, I missed out on the 2005 holiday season and a convention that only occurs every two years, in which my book would have sold very well.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE as there many authors who have had a similar experience and worse.
