A Bonita Springs man is accused of biting and spitting at nurses after he was admitted to a hospital because he was drunk, deputies say.
Patrick Boylan, 23, of the 8700 block of River Homes Lane, was arrested Saturday by Collier County sheriff's deputies at Physicians Regional-Pine Ridge.
According to arrest reports, after Boylan was dropped off at the emergency room for being highly intoxicated, he became extremely uncooperative by screaming obscenities at the hospital staff and refused to have any tests done.
Deputies said Boylan was threatening physical harm to the staff and himself as well.
During one of Boylan's aggressive outbursts, the hospital staff decided to restrain him for their safety and his own by placing a soft restraint onto his left wrist, according to reports.
A hospital nurse who was helping treat Boylan told deputies that while she was attempting to help place the restraint, Boylan spit and struck her in the face.
Another nurse saw this and attempted to cover Boylan's mouth with a spit mask but Boylan bit her right pinkie finger, according to reports.
Deputies said the restraints and spit mask were successfully placed on Boylan and he was arrested on two counts of battery on hospital staff.
