Paul E Smith Plumbing installed our plumbing which led to a number of problems associated with their workmanship which can be noted as follows:
1. Plumber forgot to stub the water line for the second floor humidifier and he had to cut through three floors to find it in order to hook it up.
2.The shower valve in the master made piercing sounds and rather than replace it they repaired it numerous times. We asked for a replacement but it was denied. It was replaced eventually...some two years later.
3.During the time the repairs were made to the shower, the nozzle was not screwed on tightly and water leaked behind the wall causing extensive damage that exceeded $15,000. Dennis Smith, President, initially attempted to give me a $500 check with release,, but we kjnew this was a bigger problem and refused his offer. We contacted the BBB and for assistance, and Smith plumbing eventually fixed most of it leaving us with painting, drywall, caulking etc.
4. Temp. toilet leaked into the basement during installation.
5. Jacuzzi not hooked up properly causing the Jacuzzi water to leak into the den and entry through the lighting and speakers.
6.Had problems with hotwater from the beginning, we were just told our water heater was defective and known by the industry at the time of installation. Smith plumbing never informed us about the defect. They installed a pump that only helped a little and most likely covered up the problem. We recently had to incur more expense fixing something the defect that should had been fixed while it was under warranty.
7.We expressed numerous concerns about the water heater from the beginning buy no one told us there was a factory defect.
8. It took over a year and one halfto make repairs to the fixtures because the wrong parts were sent or the plumber chipped them during installation.
9. We found large poop stained underwear under the Jacuzzi(under the insulation) which looked like it would have fit the plumber!
10.Installed a shower nozzle on the wrong wall which sprayed directly outside the open shower door. They moved it, but we lived with the hole for over 2 years.
11. He forgot to hook up the dishwasher
12.We recently had to make a series of repairs because we were told it was due to poor workmanship of the Smith plumber. We needed to put the house in saleable condition and hired a master plumber to fix everything that needed to be fixed. We had several premature leaks beginning when the house was around three-four years old which caused damage to our property and home. We had to dispose of many items because the water destroyed them. We were not able to make any claims on our homeowners because we had made a big claim and risked being cancelled or having the premium go up. After the most recent leak we were told by the plumber that our pipes were not the right gauge. We were not surprised because Smith plumbing was cited for two code violations. They took care of it two years after we moved in. I contacted Dennis Smith in December 2001 and asked him to make the necessary repairs but he declined. He agreed to make a settlement with us in return for a release.
I agreed and I sent him a fax for regarding the dollar figure. The last note from Smith dated 1/30/02 "We too wish to resolve this issue immediately. Please provide us with a firm amount to contribute toward resolution so that we might proceed immediately to address a settlement with you." I faxed them the amount but did not hear so I faxed them again and told them I would file a complaint and here is the response from Russ Graves, Smith Plumbing, dated 5/16/02: "Our company has done all it can do to settle this matter in good faith." We were simply trying to minimize our loss because their errors cost of thousands of dollars, illness, and aggravation. We are amazed this company does not care about how they have harmed their clients and will not step up to the plate and stand by their mistakes!
