The information that you are sharing is very helpful. I was about to proceed with a complaint to Paypal about fraudulent jewelry sales on eBay. I thought it would be good first to find out how Paypal handles such claims. I am beginning to believe that it would be better for me to contact the New York State Attorney General first in order to effectively handle my own claim. All of the experiences I have read about on this site should be put into a book entitled "1850 Reasons Not to do Business with eBay/Paypal".

Look, I am dealing with the same issues as some of these other PayPal/EBay customers. I opened my account with PayPal 5-1/2yrs ago. I purchased a $9000 motorcycle. Over the years I have purchased close to $25,000 and every single dime was paid with my VISA Card. Then one day PayPal contacted me and told me I had reached my magical spending limit and to continue purchasing I would be required to have my account "verified". They asked for, and received, my bank checking account number and they sent a 3-4 cent deposit to my checking in order to "verifiy" my account. I had never had any issues with PayPal and never gave this another thought other than to think that PayPal was somehow protecting me from the bad guys. Well, the Bad Guys turned out to be PayPal. They now had my checking account info and re-directed every purchase payment I made to my checking account. No notice. No permission. They just did it. After a few weeks I started getting notices that my account was overdrawn and checks were being returned. I contacted my bank because I knew this simply could not be correct. Turns out PayPal started debiting my checking immediately after I supplied the verification info they demanded. EVen when I directed the payment to my VISA card. To date I have had to pay over $380 in returned check fees to my bank. Each bounced check also has a fee from the retailer I made them out to. So the fees double as I clean up the mess. People, I did not authorize PayPal to take control of my assets and make financial decisions for me. But they did. And it cost me plenty. And PayPal's response? "It is written in the small print" The verification process gives them the right to access your bank account and seize your funds if they feel it is necessary. Read some of the horror stories. I cannot figure out how PayPal benefits from doing this to it's customers. But I do know that they have probably cost me $500-600 in bank fees and damaged my reputation. They now have a legal document that says they control my bank accounts. Pretty scary. If there is a class action suit being considered please contact me because I am mad as hell and ready to fight back. And the major advice. DO NOT VERIFY YOUR ACCOUNT WITH PAYPAL.

I will say this one more time. No one is reading this report right.I have done business with Ebay/ Paypal for 4 years. In that time they did take from my bank account because I authorized it. However the times I'm talking about they weren't given permission to do so from bank account. I placed it on credit card and no bank account was present.I took bank info off. They still tried to take it from bank even tho I said no, placing it on a card. 20 dollars was taken out 8 times (finally ended up10 times). You all can talk up Pay pal all you want but I am only 1 out of hundreds who got scammed. Read all the reports.

Why do you think paypal had you verify trial deposits to your checking account when it was initially set up? This is a very tedious process and they have you jump through hoops just to set up your account to make purchases. If you didn't know that it would attempt to pull from your checking account, you really should've read the terms/conditions a little more carefully. I know they offer you other methods on making pymts but you have to go through as much headache setting that up as you did with the checking. If it was easy to process the pymt you should've assumed something was wrong.

I am the author of this article and I guess who aren't reading it. I Said I do not have nor have ever had a debit card. Further more I put down my credit card number giving permission to use only that credit card and nothing more. They did not pay attention and still went ahead without my permission and took from my bank account any how. This account was not authorized for them to do this, they did it any how. Each time they did ( 10 times ) it cost me 20 dollars each time. I stated I did not have enough in bank to cover these items. THIS WAS THE REASON to begin with why I put it on credit card. They don't listen to you and do what they want.

It makes no difference how she made the transaction. Whether a person uses a debit card as a "debit" transaction, or a "credit" transaction, it STILL comes out of a checking account. ALL debit cards take funds from your AVAILABLE balance in a CHECKING ACCOUNT. Debit cards ARE NOT credit cards. Therefore, the OP made a transaction from a CHECKING ACCOUNT via a debit card that funds were not available in the account to cover. This is really painfully obvious. No ripoff here.

I know someone else with a similar problem. However, he made the mistake of not looking at all the payment options offered. He's been using Paypal for years, and had no idea that you could pay with a credit card, instead of a bank payment. He too was upset, because it "overdrew" his account. Once I pointed out to him what had happened, he realized his mistake. I'm not saying this author made a mistake either, I don't know the facts. I do know that I myself have been using Paypal for many years, not once has anything happened that wasn't supposed to. Paypal also helped me recover money on 3 different occaisions. I don't mean to take up web space, I just thought Paypal deserves a little support from a happy user. No offense meant to those who disagree.

Lots of people probably never had problems with Pay Pal. Doesnt meant they dont rip people off. Even if they rip off 1 out of a 1,000 of their customers that is still thousands of people that are getting screwed. I no longer use Pay Pal because I was screwed as well.

Hello ! Well I said I would keep you updated. Here is the update from my lawyer visit today. My lawyer has every correspondence I have made with Paypal concerning me placing my items on my credit card and they instead took from my bank account with out my permission.I only gave permission to place these debts on my card. However After my lawyer did some checking around on the site ,after a whole lot of digging around he found a paper that states they "will" take from your account first before taking from a credit card. What he told me was as long as it was written on their site they could and would continue to do this. He said by doing business with them I had agreed to do this. I told him in no certain terms I most certainly did not give them permission to take all my money. I didn't have hardly any as it was that's why I put it all on cards. He said as long as it was written they were abiding my the law. I never saw this paper on the site and asked him where he found it. He said he had to do a lot of searching. I told him that in my book was unethical. it should be right up front where we could see it. He agreed it was highly unethical to hide it but it was legal.Well folks what it all boils down to is this they can steal from us all they want to and nothing can be done. The only way to stop them is with a class action lawsuit . To do this everyone on here would have to get together and file a law suit against pay pal to stop this.I would hope everyone would stick together on this but its doubtful you all will.I will certainly be right in there if you all want this. First step is to get a lawyer willing to do this then that lawyer must get in contact with the editor at Rip off reports to let them know what we are doing.OH WELL I THINK ILL JUST GO OUT IN TO THE STREET AND THROW MONEY AROUND. THIS IS THE SAME THING.

I have had Paypal for years, and have never encountered this problem, and I pay with my bank account and credit cards. Even though you choose to pay with a credit card, I have noticed that Paypal will try to get you to pay with your bank account instead, and you have to be very careful on how you continue with the transaction. I have noticed that even after choosing the card option, I would see the funds were going to be deducted from my bank account. I would have to modify the 'funding source' again to choose the credit card. You have to read those screen very carefully before submitting the payment.
