Complaint Review: PENNSVILLE AUQUATICS AND PET CENTER - Pennsvillle New Jersey

My husband and I walked into PV Aquatics in oct of 2008 to get dog food for our rottie, while there we walked to the back where all the puppies are at, we found a beautiful white bicheon with the widest brown eyes. She looked at us cocking her head from side to side as we were talking to her. Well needless to say she came home with us that day. Her name is Bella and she is a very loving member of our family. We took her to Del-Val vets to be checked out even though we had a report from the pet shop that she was in good health, and we were told that she was a healthy puppy. She was well groomed at the pet shop and bathed there also right before we brought her home. Her paper work states she is from myers kennel in Litz PA. We in no way would have thought this was a puppy mill, as our baby just came from there  and was in good health and weight. I think that Bill is a disgruntled ex employee of the kennels or the pet store, or he is just an unhappy person. We are very happy with Bella and love having her in our home. We would get another puppy from the pet store again and have referred them to our friends and family as well.....Happy Family.

If you want a puppy, pet stores are not the place to get one. By definition, pet stores retail puppies to people that have the money to pay for them. They don't screen buyers, perform health testing, or have a lifetime return policy, the way that ethical breeders do. Ethical breeders never sell their puppies to pet stores to be resold to the public. I repeat, they never sell their puppies to pet stores. Ethical breeders want to meet the people adopting the puppies to ensure that the puppy is a good match for the adopters. Ethical breeders conduct breed-appropriate health testing to screen for inherited defects, such as liver shunts, hip dysplasia, and many others. Because of the mark-up on pet shop puppies, pet shops can not afford puppies whose parents have been properly health tested. There is no profit to be made, as breeders generally sell these puppies at $1000-1500 per puppy, and this is often a loss. Stores can't sell merchandise at a loss, or they close. Hobby breeders lose money ethically breeding dogs, but they do it for the betterment of the breed as a whole because they love their chosen breed. The solution is to not purchase puppies at a store. A puppy from an ethical hobby breeder may cost more initially, but it is likely that it will remain healthy throughout its life. The buyer will have lifetime support from the breeder, and will always be able to call, day or night, for help. Also, ethical breeders have a lifetime return policy. They may not refund the money, but they will always take the dog back, no matter the reason, no matter the age. For a lifetime companion, pet shops aren't the way to go.

Nathan Myers supplies Pennsville Aquatics with their puppies and these are the conditions that the breeding dogs live in. Yes he is a K5 USDA registered kennel with 1100 dogs but do you know how those dogs live? They live in buildings in 2x2 cages their whole lives never getting outside living on wire producing puppies and what happens when they can not be bred anymore? They are killed, thrown in a compost pile and spread out on the field for fertilizer. What happen when a puppy is being weaned and wont eat? it dies why bother what happens when a puppy is sick? It is self medicated and if it does not get better it dies. Why call the vet out it cuts in to profits. And how much is Vicky Tepper paying for these whole sale puppies Well Bichons 200 Carin Terriers 200 Golden Ret 225Maltese 350 Yorkies 450 Bassests 200 Rotties 250 Shih tzus 250 Corgis 200 Shelties 175 and she charges how much to the public for these purebred puppymill puppies. So yes she goes up and picks these puppies from the hell they live in to overcharge people and make a profit. So yes she is just so great isn't she. And as far as her vet Delaware Valley who approves her puppies for sale well where does Pennsville Aquatics refer there puppies to go to the vet. Delaware Valley of course so it's money making profit for them too. And what about hereditary conditions ask Ms vicky about the 4month old shihtzu puppy with tumors in it's mouth that has had over three thousand dollars worth of surgery that she refuses to cover and the list could keep going on puppies sold with hereditary conditions she refuses to pay for from her puppy mill puppies. So yes as her employee admitted Vicky Tepper buys her puppies from Puppymills Attached are pictures from Nathan Myers Kennel that Vicky Tepper goes to to buy her puppies yeah it looks like she really care about the welfare of the dogs all that is worried about is profit and money.

Pet Center- In order to successfully run a pet center you have to be able to purchase animals in quantity. As you know, pet stores also sell ferrets, chinchilla's, hamsters, and rabbits. Have you ever heard of a ferret, chinchilla, hamster, or ferret mill? I do not think so. Yet these animals are bread in quantities as well. Pet stores need to buy in quantity to supply the demand of the public. My hat goes off to Vicki Tepper, for she is such a conscientious business owner, that she personally goes to Myers Kennels and inspects the premises for proper cleaning conditions. There are numerous places that sell puppies in quantities. Many of these places order from reputable places, but the puppies are shipped from who knows where, in who knows what conditions. In fact Mrs. Tepper used these reputable companies only to find that the puppies arrived ill. So she decided that the better thing to do is to personally go and see where each puppy is born and raised. Since Mrs. Tepper has started picking her puppies on site the rate of sickness has stopped. In reference to the puppy with the liver shunt, any puppy from any top breeder can have this condition. It is not a so called puppy mill condition. Mrs. Tepper does her best to assure the puppies health by two vet checks from two separated veterinarians. Just where do you think Mrs. Tepper should get her dogs? From home breeders? This is just not feasible. The demand is to high and the cost to the customers would double. No one lies at Pennsville Aquatics and Pet Center to where the puppies came from. It is on the paper work! It is in black and white. Have you ever been there bill to question what the conditions are like? There is always going to be a demand for puppies. There is always going to be breeding kennels. As long as there are properly run and the kennels are well kept this is where you need to go as a business owner to supply the demand. Once the puppies arrive at the store they are bathed and their nails are cut. They are then vet checked by an excellent vet at Delaware Valley Veterinary Hospital. They are given top quality food, bones, toys and beds. I have been to numerous pet stores and never seen such excellent conditions, as the conditions at Pennsville Aquatics and Pet Center. I work there and I can tell you Bill that the puppies are taken care of with the utmost loving care. Bill if you are into slandering people and their business I highly suggest you to a ride to other stores. See where they get there puppies and what kind of treatment and care they give. You'll see that Pennsville Aquatics and Pet Center will rank at the top.

I have been employed at PV Aquatics for the past 5 years. Nathan Myers is in no way a "puppy mill". He has a VALID USDA license and if you check the site that "Bill" provided you, you can check his USDA history for the past 4 years and all of these reports have come back SATISFACTORY. As for the dying yorkie he is a happy and healthy puppy who was affected by the food that has been recalled. This illness was in no way hereditary and was in no way the fault of pennsville aquatics (even tho the owner of PV Aquatics returned ALL the money paid for the puppy and allowed the customer to keep the puppy). Dr Dector will be more than happy to talk to anyone with questions about this particular incident if anyone would like to call him. As for the person who posted this report, seems to me that this person is a disgruntled ex-employee who has nothing better to do with their time than to make up rediculous claims (although s/he was a little lazy in their research)
