When you buy a membership to PeopleFinders, this is supposed to give you access to marriage and divorce records. That's what they advertise on their website.

In fact, PeopleFinders only gives you a very small range of states and years to choose from. So unless you're specifically looking for, say, somebody who was married in Arkansas between 1972 and 1986, then you're out of luck. If you think that "marriage and divorce records" means all records, or most records, or even many records, then you will have spent your money for nothing.

But PeopleFinders craftily chooses not tell you that until after you've signed up and they've gotten your money.

If you are considering paying for this service, don't. It's a waste of money and only gives you very basic information. PeopleFinders is dishonest about what information is accessible to search.

They do not give refunds. And they do not respond to e-mails. And you will keep getting e-mails asking you to renew your membership, even after you tell them why you are not renewing.

Hello

I am sorry to see you have had a negative experience using PeopleFinders.com.

PeopleFinders strives to provide the most recent and relevant information possible in one convenient report. The site has access to more than 40 years worth of public records, and adds new data constantly. As long as a public record is created, PeopleFinders should have it, but if the information is not publicly available for some reason then it will not be found on our site.

The Marriage Records page does list what dates and states we have available you can find that at http://www.peoplefinders.com/marriage-records-search. We provide as many records as possible, but not every allows this information to be shown online.

Again, Im sorry to see you were not able to find the information you were looking for and that you were not able to resolve this issue via email. We pride ourselves on our excellent level of customer service and satisfaction. Please contact our customer care team by phone at (800) 718-8997  Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm PST. They will be happy to listen to your issue and get this matter resolved.

Thank you for your time.

This is a response to TJ's comment.

The webpage I used to sign up for either a $1.95, $19.95, or a $39.95 service absolutely did not have a disclaimer right on that page which showed which states were covered.  It plainly says marriage and divorce records are available along with complete address history, however, the Terms of Use at the bottom of the page contains a disclaimer which does not guarantee any information provided, and that they do not provide refunds.

I won't refute that some of the information they provide could in some cases be useful, but I do want to say that the information they provide is unreliable at best.  I tried the $19.95 plan and ended up getting a jumbled list of addresses with each search, along with a list of phone numbers not even tied to the address list.  Neither the addresses nor the phone numbers were listed in chronological order, which means you don't know what the most recent address or number is.  I didn't see a hint of any information regarding marriage or divorces.  The webpage I used to purchase this service basically used false advertising in an attempt to lure people in.

The real kicker is when I did a search on my own name.  My most recent address where I was located for 4 years did not show up in the information provided.  Though it listed some of my old phone numbers - all of them had been disconnected, and their information did not include the phone number I currently have active (and have had active for a few years now).

And though they did respond to my email with what appeared to be an auto-reply email designed for my type of complaint - it did absolutely nothing to resolve my issue aside from bringing their disclaimer to my attention.  It makes one wonder why they would need such an email after years of complaints like these, if they are truly interested in addressing these issues in a constructive and ethical manner.

Maybe you didn't notice but the available states are listed on the website at all times. Not every state legally allows marriage and divorce information to be shown on the internet. If they don't, how is PeopleFinders.com supposed to give it to you? Even if you look online for Marriage and Divorce reacords from the Department of Vital Records, they will not provide the information online. They can't provide it, and neither does PeopleFinders. I've been to that site and have found many friends. I too bought a membership and experienced NO confusion as I am smart enough to read the page I'm on. It tells you whats states are covered DIRECTLY ABOVE THE PRICE. And yes, they do respond to emails. You are responsible for your own actions, and the ability to read.
