Well Charles, it seems from your post to my Rip-Off report, that you have nothing better to do than flame people online. That coupled with your lack of pronunciation in your writing, I would guess that you never achieved anything higher than a 4th grade reading level. Of course I could be wrong, in fact I would like you to prove me wrong. Write back another rebuttal with proper pronunciation, no profanity, and a real point about the subject of car repair and I will retract my comments about you.

1. I did have the car looked at and the tie rod is fine. 2. I was given a printed quote for repairs from their computer and the price for the tie rod was blank. ("Hey Joe, what's this? Oh I say that's $300 dollars" from the movie "The Mask") 3. I do know what a tie rod is and what it does. 4. I'm not cheap Jose. 5. And right now my car has 75,000 miles on it and is still running fine. 6. I had another friend of mine that Pep Boys tried to rip off with the same scam. 7. I did not say it was unreasonable to stock the part, that they do not know what the price of the part is unreasonable. 8. Just a for humor, I was driving by the Pep Boys shop and there was this piston lying in the road. So I say to myself, was that car coming or going from the shop, either way was possible.

THE FACT IS THAT PEP BOYS OFFERS THIS SERVICE SO WE CAN VISUALLY INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND LET THE CUSTOMER KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THEIR VEHICLE. WE CHANGE THE OIL, OIL FILTER, CHECK AND TOP OFF OTHER FLUID AND INSPECT SUSPENSION TIRES AND EXHAUST..... PERHAPS THE WRITER WAS UNABLE TO GET THE PRICE OF THE TIE ROD. MY QUESTION IS DID YOU GET IT INSPECTED ELSEWHERE TO VERIFY THAT IT IS NOT DAMAGED AND PUTING YOU IN DANGER OR DID YOU JUST DECIDE TO GO ON THE COMPUTER AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE GREAT SERVICE THAT YOU DONT REALIZE YOU GOT.........

this message is for rick and/or chad, if you are going to wait when something falls off your car, then is really too late, not only you are damaging your car, but you are endangering other peoples lives, i'm not sure if you know about cars, but a tie rod end is part of your steering linkage, tie rod falls off, you loose control of your car!!! by ignoring these recomendations by pepboys is pure stupidity!!! now, if you do not believe pepboys, take your car elsewere to get a second opinion. now on the part about not having a price on a part, don't tell the customer, thats stupidity again!!!. maybe they couldn't get the price on the part due to possible dealer part? or too late to call? at least the customer knows of a potential problem with the car that needs attention as soon as possible. or maybe you're just plain cheap!!

To Michael from New Jersey: Why don't you "Smarten Up" and learn to spell correctly before you criticize someone. A credible repair shop would find out the price of the suggested repair part BEFORE even mentioning it to the customer. I feel safe in saying that very few, if any, quick lube businesses are credible. I had one employee practically cuss me out because I refused to purchase an air filter for $25 from them. The same filter from Target was $6. I now change my own oil to stay away from these ripoffs......Yes, I have "Smartened Up", I suggest you do the same. Please get a dictionary so you can spell BEFORE YOU TYPE.

The entire point of an oil change is to get the car in the shop to look it over for other work. That is why LOF's (lube, oil, filter) are offered at discount prices like $9.99. The company actually loses money on this. These are called loss-leader promotions. If whomever you've been bringing your car to for service never recommended other work, then you're taking it to the wrong shop. I will agree that recommending unnecassary work is wrong. However, you yourself have stated your city as on of the 10 worst for road conditions. It is entirly reasonable that you could have a tie rod problem. As far as it being "fine", consider yourself lucky that the tierod hasn't fallen off. By then it will be too late. Then your vehicle won't be so "fine". As far as them not knowing the price of the part, there are over 100,000 different makes and models of cars and it is impossible to stock each one. The writer should have called his outside source and priced the part but you don't say what time or day you were there. Perhaps his sources were closed. In closing, smarten up and think before you type.
