PEP BOYS PEP BOYS RIPOFF diagnostic came back with "NO Failure" O.K. to drive SNELLVILLE Georgia
I own a l999 Dodge Ram Van. The engine light was staying on all of the time.. I took my van to PEP Boys for a diagnostic to find out why the light was staying on. The diagnostic came back with "NO Failure" O.K. to drive. The Attendant/Clerk "Paige" told me, "all the vehicle needs is a tune up and regular maintenance" i.e. oil change etc. I told her to go ahead! 8 hours later,
I called on my vehicle, to see if the work was complete.
"Paige" told me " the mechanic that was working on the van did all the work but the engine light was still comming on. The mechanic unhooked the exhaust system and drove the van around in the parking lot, and all the power had returned and the light went off. Then she told me, "I need to take it to another shop" that PEP BOYS couldn't fix it. She told me the Catalitic Converter had something wrong.
The reason I took this van in, was to find out what was wrong. PEP BOYs failed to find the problem correctly. I talked to the store managers i.e. Frank, Allen, and Meyers. None of these people would answer my question, None of these people care!

Lemme get this straight you don't think they diagnosed the problem "correctly"? What if anything did you expect them to do? To quote you: I own a l999 Dodge Ram Van. The engine light was staying on all of the time.. I took my van to PEP Boys for a diagnostic to find out why the light was staying on. You wanted to know why the light came on; now you know. Since they confessed to you that they are unable or unqualified to tackle a problem of this magnitude, most people would count themselves as lucky to get a proper diagnosis and an oil change to boot. Would you rather them try to fix it even though they weren't equipped to handle it? Sorry, but I just don't see a ripoff here. Your best bet would be find an exhaust specialist and have them replace the catalytic converter before the thing blows up on ya. CC's are famous for that when they are clogged up, thus setting the sensor off for it.

I'm a dristrict manager for one of Pep-Boys Competition. Most shops would never have found the problem. They simply would have took your money for what you approved and left it at that. Count your self lucky.
