Periodical & Publication Connection; United Family Circulation (Fake) College student selling magazine subscriptions door to door ripped me off! BUFORD Georgia
The kid was clean cut, very personable and believable claiming he's a student at Cal State Fullerton and a neighbor of ours, living a couple streets over. He's selling magazine subscriptions "to earn a trip."
Wanting to help him out I wrote a check for a two-year subscription. I filled out an official looking invoice with the name "Periodical & Publication Connection, Inc." and I made a point of asking for a phone number in case there were any problems with my order. He said to expect the first magazine in 6 weeks. I have three days to cancel but if I do cancel then he won't get credit toward his trip, (fake sympathy plea)
My check was cashed within 10 days. We never received a magazine of course. When I called the number I got a recording saying no one is available to take your call, please leave a message. I left a detailed message with my complaint and of course, never heard from them. When I call again the "mailbox is full".
My canceled check shows the name "American Legacy" written above the date and "Mike Porter" written under the dollar amount. Also an account number written above my memo "Cal State Contribution". Ya right! You think you're helping a kid out... (we have THREE kids in college and could have used that money for our never ending bills, thanks a lot!)
These scammers ruin it for kids that really are trying to raise funds. I'll never buy a magazine subscription from a door-to-door again. Tell your neighbors and don't fall for this like I regret I did!
