You should have gotten your policy immediately after signing up.... As a former employee and having a Propery & Casualty license from the state of ohio while with the company, 1. I printed the policies and mailed them. You should have recieved a policy right away within days of signing up. This was 4+ yrs ago, but should not have changed. You HAVE TO receive a policy it is the law, and you shouldn't receive it only when you make a claim, something your saying here is wrong or something. 2. If you signed up for the policy and planned to go to the vet before getting the policy and reading it yourself was not a good idea. AND the sales rep should have disclosed to you that they do not do pre-approvals. Everyone their knows that. Someone you spoke to was either deceptive or new and ignorant of this fact. They could deny you more easily within a certain period of time here. Can't remember tho. 3. Claim denial within the company when I was there according to the paperwork I saw while I was there shredding it, was extraordianarily high. More than I could have thought. But across the industry it was higher than most if not all. 4. The main problem with Pet insurance is that it is, by insurance law, PROPERTY insurance not HEALTH insurance. This is where people get confused and the companies can make alot of money denying claim you might think are valid. IT IS NOT HEALTH INSURANCE for PETS. IT IS and accident and injury policy for a piece of property, even if that property is a dearly loved and precious "family" member. Many employees with the company bought the policies for thier pets, a few not alot. IT was accepted by most that it is better to save back $20 a month in a separate bank account just for your pet/s for emergencies. The chances of covered injuries and the fact it would be covered in the next policy term (year) is small, less than probably 25%. SO< save your money back and put it aside somewhere safe and DON"T spend it unless for your pet emergency. Pet insurance is not a racket, a con, except for overzealous or misleading sales reps. Be thoruogh in your investigation and save your money back for your pet emergencies. But, it is about as close to a legal racket/ripoff a business can get. !!!
