In fact, I recently went to a party and bought over a hundred dollars worth of jewelry.

It really does not matter when your mother bought the item and when you got it. It comes down to that it was an item purchased 6 months ago. What if your mom waited 1 year? What about 3 years? What about 5 years? When should they no longer make this "exception".
Perhaps you are special and they should make an exception, or perhaps you are not being honest and you actually had the items for 6 months before you decided to return it. You see they have no way of knowing what the real situation is. I do not believe that you will find any stores, Internet or "Brick and Mortar", that allow returns after 6 months, the maximum seems to be about 90 days(3 months).
Also, not really sure what the threat to not "buy from them again" will do. You didn't buy from them this time..or did you?

So your Mother gave you a present and you want to return it. I have never returned anything someone (especially my Mother) gave me. The presents weren't always exactly what I would have selected but I keep them and use them or wear them just because of the thought behind the gift. But that's just me.
Anyway, you said you won't buy from them again, I don't think you bought from them this time. Your Mother did.
Six months is an unrealistic expectation and this is decidedly not a ripoff on anyone's part.

a 6 month return policy is absurd.....there has to come a point where company's draw the line on what they can do...expecting to exchange anything 6 months after it was purchased is unfair to the business.

You misunderstand - I only waited 2 weeks. My mother went to a party in March, then gave me the jewelry at the end of August. That is exactly my point - the nature of these sellers means that you go to a party only once in a great while and buy for gifts. That is why their return policy needs to be more liberal.

That is too bad, but why did you wait 6 months? I cant think of any store that lets you keep an item 6 months then exchange or return it.
They have this policy because anyone could just get some jewelry, wear it for months to a party or weddings, or what ever, and when they get tired of it they can just get a new piece of jewelry 6 months later.
I see WHY they have this policy.
