Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Met with the General Manager of Prestige in Hudson, Florida in January and signed a "contract" (labeled as a Purchase Agreement by Prestige) for a modular home of almost 90 K. My intention was to pay cash so I gave an 18 K cash deposit (later, the General Manager was informed in writing that I was getting a mortgage. This Purchase Agreement had no details other than cost and model but it was accompanied with much discussion, including the need for me to sign a more complete "contract" with all specifics in a week or so.

I returned and throroughly went over all the specifics, written in a form as well as attached as a picture, in the next "contract". I was not given a copy of this "contract", nor the first one because "all of these go to Ocala for signature before they are legal". ( I did not get a copy of either until almost 2 months later after I insisted on getting them). A couple of weeks later, I signed another "contract" which appeared most like a legal document. It lacked all reference to the first 2 "contracts" but was assured that all 3 contracts were now my contract.

The warranty end date is Jan of 2004 and as of Aug 31, I still have not gotten the home. Why?

The vinyl floors were wrong when I saw the home at the factory in Ocala (they ripped up the wrong floor and put the new one down in less than an hour! Some areas are still wrong and the ripping up of the vinyl has completely damaged all the bottoms of the cabinets in all 3 baths and the very large kitchen)

The cabinets are poorly constructed, ripping, and look like cheap contact paper on a hard material (Spaces between cabinets are visually VERY obvious, the coating looks like cheap, peel and stick paper, nail polish creates marks on them and they are ripping and coming apart. If you rate the cabinets in the model as a 10, these are a 1)

There is a leak in the roof in the kitchen. (Big water stain from a roof leak was covered up for my second inspection with white paint. The problem was not fixed)

All electric outlets are VISUALLY crooked. (It looks like someone had a beer lunch and installed all the electrical plates.)

All the mirrors are VISUALLY crooked. (Looks like the mirror guy had lunch with the electrical plate guy)

The wet bar and the fireplace were not installed (It is still laying on the floor of the home, plumbing pipes and all, with the "promise" that it will be installed after I pay in full- (truth--as I have picketed for almost 3 weeks solid, I have met a dozen or more people that tell me that they do NOT fix anything after the home is put on your property)

The sliding door and all of the windows do not open (They tell me that they are not working because it is not "set up" (I believe in the Easter Bunny but I do not believe this. Windows open in Home Depot on the floor but these only open when the house is completely set up?)

They want FULL CASH before the home leaves the lot and will not hook up electric, hook up plumbing, set it up on the foundation, put it together or do anything else (They are expecting me to take 3 pieces of garbage on the ground and then find someone else to do their job)

The CEO and VP of Prestige and Nobility Homes tell me that the General Manager "lied" to me. They told me that he is "guilty of fraud", they tell me that "he whited out all of your contracts. (Yes, he did. He stole my permit money. He stole the impact fees and permit money from many others too. The CEO is pressing fraud charges against the employees of Prestige because the company has suffered losses, BUT, they are not restoring any losses to the customers. They are now taking advantage of the perks of the FRAUD. Is this now a conspiracy in Fraud?.

Several have now hired attorneys to get their money back, including me. Their agents lied, cheated, frauded and Florida-Flim-Flammed and they are taking advantage of the monetary rewards of this fraud by not making anyone whole. SHAME ON YOU, Trexler. Certainly you should know that you are responsible for the actions of your employees and why did it take you almost 2 months after I told you about this fraud to get this band of theives to "resign". Were you waiting for some more wind falls to cut your losses?)

Do NOT buy from Prestige or Nobility. They tell me that their employees and/or agents lie, cheat, fraud and scam. I guess they are even more guilty than the grunts that work for them.

Go to a national company. Do not get ripped off by this pack of low lifes. Save yourself thousands. I have rented my home, thinking this abortion would be done as promised, now I am homeless. I have cleared my land, payed impact fees and permit fees, engineering and other costs (spent about 50K )including concrete stilt work that is now useless unless I am willing to pay cash BEFORE it leaves their lot and willing to live in a SHABBY, POORLY contructed house that has been left wide open to months of heavy rain.(The plastic has been ripped for months and despite my asking the new manager to close it up, it has remained open and flooded) PS.. after purchasing the Deluxe Appliance Package, they will not even give me a stinking $1,000 refrigerator because they cannot find the original contract (BEFORE they "Whited" it out) and the word "refrigerator" was checked off.

If you MUST have a Prestige home, get a lawyer and keep the lawyer until it is all said and done. There is a class action suit against them now. Are you a victim too? E mail me through the rebuttal key and I will give you the lawyer's name (with Morgan, Collin and Gilbert)

I have read the inflammatory comments posted by Ms. Burke on the website. The truth is so far removed from her comments it's disgusting. The reality of the situation is that she entered into a contract with Prestige Home Centers, Inc. and ordered a new DCA modular home. The sale was a cash transaction. As per the contract, a 20% deposit was collected by Prestige and the home was ordered. The contract also stipulates (on all cash transactions by the way, not JUST her's) that prior to delivery all remaining funds are to be remitted in Certified funds. This is company policy. The customer loses nothing by remitting all of the funds. The contract they sign specifies in detail all of the items that the seller of the home is still responsible for to complete the transaction. There are also mechanisms in place from the State to protect consumers as well. The truth of the matter is that when it came time to close, she didn't have the funds necessary to close. She attempted to obtain a mortgage, but to no avail. She hired an attorney and was probably told that she did not have a case. The bottom line is that she was in default of her contract. After a year of waiting for her to honor her contract, the home was sold to another buyer. As far as the "class action" suit against the company, I've never been contacted about such an issue. Nobility Homes, which owns Prestige, has been in business since 1967 and has manufactured over 45,000 homes. It is a debt-free, publicly held company with a wonderful reputation and thousands of very satisfied customers. I have been with the company for 11 years and am proud to say that we always try to do the right thing. In this case, we were working with a consumer that we couldn't satify due to her financial shortcomings. We gave her every opportunity to fulfill her end of the contract (over a year!) and unfortunately we could not deliver the home that she ordered. I hope this lends some insight into these completely ridiculous accusations. Sincerely, James Shepherd General Manager Prestige Home Centers, Inc. Hudson, Florida
